I've to disagree with actually all the negative points. The battery on my P9 last 2.5-3 days with a regular use. I don't know how this review unit was set up, but obviously there's something just off with it (btw: just to avoid confusions here, setting manually all respective apps permissions is a Marshmallow requirement, not Huawei's). Same story for the performances. I've nothing to complain about from a gaming perspective, and even less from a multi tasking point of view. It's just an as smooth an experience as you would have on a S7, and there isn't a significant amount of heat coming from the device to even mention on a serious review, otherwise at equal level of heat, all high-end smartphones out there with a Snapdragon 820 should be put in the same bag as the P9. Again, this is sad to see an "After 6 weeks review" with the "bad points" being developed without a good ground when the "good points" are only briefly mentioned if not totally disregarded (screen, apps, finger print reader, etc).

lol just realized that this phone doesn't have any kind of glass protection. I was very, very interested in this phone before, but now it isn't even in my radar.

I don't have much hope with Honor 8 either since their V8 seems to omit the feature too. Oh well, it's not like there's a shortage of phones out there.

Kyle K., 30 May 2016Hi there. It's very simple. It's a standardized battery ... morethanks for replying, i definitely know the method you initially used to produce a so called 75hr rating for your initial review.

However fast forward to real life usage and it ends up with a half of that or maybe a third. AND you complain it has poor battery life (as a con). So maybe I'm being a bit hard on you guys trying to come up with an objective measure, but can i summarize that any phone with a lower rating of 75hr in your normal review actually also fares poorly in your typical usage? Yes, back to your lab conditions and you can again quote your disclaimers etc, but I find that GSMArena has been WAY too favourable to phones, giving high battery life ratings, ignoring high heat/throttling in most Snapdragon 810 devices and happily rating away mediocre flagships as must haves.

I find your typical usage actually very relatable to normal usage ie mine but it is rare for you to give such assessments. For example in the case of this P9, its a perfect example of a phone I'd altogether skip based on a real life usage review you put up.Dual Camera - gimmick, speed - regularly stuttering, battery - life mediocre. See, a much simpler conclusion.

Take it as encouragement to produce more of such cases (of course we can't expect you to spend months per phone) but make it more relatable to us.

Kyle K., 30 May 2016Hi there. It's very simple. It's a standardized battery ... moreYeah about something like gaming, how would you be able to see that according to the battery life testing? Is the video playback a good measure? Or web browsing? Or both, since one is GPU intensive and the other presumably cpu... :/

The P9 does have fast charging BUT it needs a charger that can output 9v and 2A; using a 5V and 3A charger won't work (for example).

I use the P8 and somethings I find things similar to what the p9 does, I do gaming like clash of clans , clash royale, Asphault 8, unkilled and Dead trigger. But everything is running smooth just the battery doesn't last.. but hey I love my P8, I hope the P9 lives up the standards.

Anonymous, 30 May 2016You probably left a lot of opened apps in the background.. ... moreNope. I always close all apps before locking the screen. It's a habit - I always use an Android smartphone side by side with the iPhone, not only because I want to stay in touch with everything new Android, but because I need a better portable camera.

But I will reset and see what happens. As of today I have another problem - can't access most of the files in the storage via PC connection. And I can't find a solution, so reset is in order.

Kyle K., 30 May 2016Hi there. It's very simple. It's a standardized battery ... moreYou probably left a lot of opened apps in the background.. Hence the lag/ low battery life.. It's understandable because as an iPhone guy you don't have the habit to close the app.. On iOS it's all done automatically once you leave the app.. That is why regular android users claim better performance and battery life which more in line with the GSMArena review.

AnonD-542978, 30 May 2016Kindly explain why your reviews are always so beautifully s... moreHi there.

It's very simple. It's a standardized battery testing routine that includes very specific tasks - standby endurance, video playback, web browsing, 3G call test. We don't install Facebook, Viber, Whatsapp, or similar. We sync one Google account with its mail, contacts, and calendar. That's the entire background activity.

My experience showed lower battery life because I had a very different routine - social apps, LTE network, playing a bunch of games. Basically, I talk about 30 mins a day, use Facebook for about 40-50 min (in the sub), play Angry Birds or Belote for about 40-50 min (again, in the sub), and browse for less than 10-15 min (email, or internet). The rest is standby on LTE network.

Our battery life test is made to be universal, so you can compare easily phones. It can't give anyone a proper idea of the phone's endurance unless it's the same usage pattern as ours, BUT it can allow you to compare phones and you'll know which will do better.

And for those who asked - I had the iPhone 6s Plus and it gave me three days of battery life with the same pattern, now the iPhone SE is lasting about two and a half days on the same pattern. So, yes, this complaint is coming from an iPhone guy, shocking, right?

                      Peace and cheers!

P.S. I still like the P9 very much, as I am sticking with it. Those are just thoughts, and the phone already got two updates, so things look promising (hopefully).

AnonD-542978, 30 May 2016Kindly explain why your reviews are always so beautifully s... moreThe explanation is in the reviews themselves...

GSMArena has to make a standard evaluation and criteria to test battery life.
This is so we can compare the results across all devices with the least factor influencing battery life. (You know... comparing apples to apples instead of comparing apples to oranges)
There are many factors that eats up battery life so GSMArena has to limit those factors into calls ONLY, calls with web browsing, etc etc
These tests are for benchmarking and comparison purposes only and subject to differ based on personal usage

                          RIP Reading Comprehension

Kindly explain why your reviews are always so beautifully scored on battery life (75hrs on P9) and yet in real life can only last you-yourself a day. That is a magnitude of 3x error

AnonD-442781, 29 May 2016I'm wondering why you said the battery life is solid and th... morethat's always been one of the issues i have with GSMA method of testing battery life for browsing: they're on wifi. I suspect the mobile is switched off, too. furthermore, it's only loading web pages - there is no real background sync going on.
so, like what others are saying, i feel like the tests do not really reflect real life usage - where you would have your social network apps, emails and what not - syncing in the background and sipping (or is it gulping) your battery life away.
however, to be fair, you cant really test objectively if you were really relying on your everyday apps. each person would be different - some using social apps more than others, some more on web browsing, while others you tube viewing. so due to this, they probably had to strip down to the basics, in order to make it comparable between phones (apples to apples kind of comparison).
just know that you need to take the results with a certain amount of "safety factor"

Most of the comments here mistook the article as a proper review. The guy is a reviewer himself but this is his thoughts with the device as his daily driver. It's like someone casually tells you his Huawei P9 story.

I've had a good read. A breath of fresh air. Thanks GSMarena.

There is another problem with this as I've used it well over 3 weeks. The device seemed to shut down certain problems even if it is set to run in the background. I've had previous experience on older huawei devices and I assumed this had been rectified; unfortunately, im wrong here.
