Ha ha ha... Sony is defocusing from World's first 3 largest smartphone market (China,India,USA). That means they don't know how to do smartphone business. Most of new brand and premium brand smartphones have had a good growth rate of sale in India including Apple iPhone. But in the case of Sony it is different. Latest Xperia X's price in India is around Rs 47,000, Apple iPhone 6S is around 50,000 and Samsung S7 is 48,000. How can common people justify the price of Xperia X...? If I pay extra 1000 I'll get a Snapdragon 820 S7 Smartphone instead of a Snapdragon 650 Xperia X smartphone. Also, if I pay extra 3000 I can have Apple iPhone 6s, here I'm just comparing Xperia price with other premium smart phone around the same price range. In India Xperia flagship series are costlier than equivalent Apple iphones. Sony's budget smartphone Xperia E4g is available around Rs 10,000 on the other hand Xiaomi redmi note 3 with Snapdragon 650 available at Rs.10,000. This is the fact about Sony. Then how could they survive in Indian Market.

In 2013 - 2014 period the growth rate of Sony mobile division is in the top 5 list (India - http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_is_a_sales_monster_in_india-news-8233.php ). Xperia M, Xperia C boost the sale of Xperia in that period and Z series also performed well. Unfortunately, these two models are last mobile from Sony for a reasonable price that sold in India. I'm from Kerala, one of the largest consumer state in India & also one of the largest market of Sony. I live in Trivandrum - capital city of the state. Here Xperia devices are only available at Sony Centre & some large mobile retailer chains. Most of retailers quit selling Xperia devices. Its ridiculous pricing, makes this company losing the market in India. If Sony wants to continue the Mobile division in India they have to change this pricing and they must have a budget phone with a reasonable price & good specification. Otherwise, most of Indians will forget the Xperia brand. If they can't it just quit the Smartphone business in India instead of defocusing. That will be the better option for Sony.

Well, I'm hardly surprised at all. In Indonesia, most people just avoid this brand. With their unresponsive and uncaring service center and pricey handsets, it's just a matter of time until they shrink or even close down their businesses.

Anonym, 01 Jul 2016In India and China they just can't compete with Xiaomi, One... moreForget Xiaomi, One plus or Lenovo.. They can't even compete with Samsung's pricing.. A market where Samsung is asking 47k INR for a phone with best in class display, camera, processor, wireless charging anf what not (The S7), sony claims similar pricing for their phone being powered by midranger SD 650..

Don't move away from the market. Instead , reevaluate your strategy. Offer 250+ $ phones only , but make sure that your direct competitors don't have significantly better offerings for the same price !!
Also , please don't remove tech features , add them !! ( I am looking at you , Xperia X and X Performance).

When I look at their "flagships" like the X Performance I'm not surprised. Then even couldn't improve the camera on this phone.

Akinaro, 01 Jul 2016They seriously believe that using only Sony brand name will... moreTrue to that. I used to have Xperia S and it was nightmare whenever thay push an update to it. Never had major issues with Samsung S2 updates at that time.
I don't know who was the head of thier mobile department but letting Sony fail in U.S , China and India is unforgivable mistake.

When sony can't provide what customer is expecting and charging premium for a mid range smartphone who will buy these phones when people are getting excellent value for money phones along with good build quality and performance. Sony is not learning from its mistakes so it is paying..

Here is an idea Sony, quit making smartphones altogether, guaranteed great numbers on the balance sheet to please wallstreet mawraans.

                  Reasons for their failure:

                  1) Camera sensors: poor software development for their own hardware that others seem to be using to great effect. Embarrassing to say the least.

                  2) Horrendous pricing: Their design have been stagnating with nothing useful about to it yet the prices have been laughably high.

                  3) Useless management: If you have a lot of MBAs and then form a committee out of them that's a sure shot way to failure.

KMB877, 01 Jul 2016Their "politic" for US it is bad for the customers anyhow! ... moreThey are not even trying in the U.S.
I am really surprised because all people in the world knows Sony and they do have fanboys in the United States. But their half-ass effort for not marketing their phones and not bring it up with four major carriers marker their doom.
I am sure that before Samsung galaxy s launched in 2009 , Sony had more brand value than Samsung but they didn't try.

Their "politic" for US it is bad for the customers anyhow! American customers, be aware! I had my Xperia C4 sent out for service twice within 7 months, each time they hold-it for about 60 days! Even more, SONY does not service cellphones outside warranty.
Great decision SONY, get out of US.
BTW, the Xperia C4 is made by a Chinese manufacturer, but the price is matching the Xperia family. At least Google is letting us know who is making Nexus...

These people at sony mobile are to blame. They're making stupid decisions one after the other. How hard can it be to realise that they are sinking and that their phones are hideously overpriced compared to the direct competition?

To survive in India, Sony needs to launch all phones as dual sim option plus expandable storage and price headsets under 25k high mid range and under 15k for mid range without compromising on basic sensors like light, compass, gyro.

It sad seeing how Sony has fallen from the top of the chart. A few years ago Sony and Nokia dominated, and before that Panasonic. Now, crapple and samsung are the top two. Time has changed!

They seriously believe that using only Sony brand name will give them access to premium segment?
Jesus Christ they seriously need to change people behind their strategy that they show us for past year...

Even my dog know that selling device and putt on it "premium" label not gonna help them.
Because now we would see only devices that will be forced to advertise as a premium, even if they would be no match, in terms of quality and specification compared to other companies that sell them for less.

And taking in to the account that Sony STILL have one of worst software department and even their latest "premium" X series still have problems like devices from 2014 is not helping them... camera software on their own hardware is still one of worst, and starting from z1 we have the same bugs(heavy processing) still the same experience with applications(not tht user friendly, heavy on resources) and still loots of problems like panorama images quality... that is still the same as on Xperia Arc from 2011...
True that their system are near-stock, but most of their apps have loots of those small annoying problems that in every day usage are just like l*@!@#@! Even their advertising stereo speakers sound worst than my old Xperia Neo V... that was not perfect at all...

Overall I just dont see their future if they gonna go this way... I loved them from start, where I bough their walkman in 90' but now just hit the damn bottom and wake up.

                                        No surprise at all.
India is a country where most number of players are like 'innumerable'.
Being premium is fine but then it has to be sustainable too.
Sony tries to compete at all segments with price tag higher than competition. This results in big dent.
On other hand Apple enters with only 1(or2) offers.
                                        This helps.

In India I have seen people carrying handsets with 4 Sims (plus 2 sd cards) and still carry additional handset(s).
                                        Sony can never sustain.

I am big fan of Sony but now it is limited to Xperia Tablet only.and seems I will now have to turn to iPad.
