Samsung Galaxy Note 2 catches fire on IndiGo flight

23 September 2016
Samsung is now investigating yet another fire caused by a Samsung phone, however, I wouldn’t put the blame on the phone just yet. We’ll get back to why in a moment.

Because you CAN swap batteries on the Note 2, you can't stop people from buying cheap and dodgy batteries off eBay, and that's the price some pay.

It easy to put fake battery inside Note2 just to make the ''news''
Is't not bad timing, but very well planned timing. To go to the menial media.
Apple must be in deep sht, when the media count on such dirty tricks with such ''news''.
BTW how could this case affect Samsung, when 4 year so far Note2 have great battery record. This battery couldn't be the original one.

[deleted post]Yes, because you have to be really biased to not see a precise correlation to a 4 years old phone with unknown precedence on the battery exploding, with the current recall right? It's not like tech centers see these cases every week from countless manufacturers right?
Please, Lithium Ions explode in worst case faults. Whatever the manufacturer, these faults can and DO happen, all the time. They just don't make it to news because it's no wonder when they explode, would this incident be 1 week before the Note 7 release, no one would care to even write a report on it

I don't think that his battery would lasted 3 years ...and swollen battery is easy noticeable and would probably cause issues putting back cover properly in place...

it's probably that user had replaced the battery with new one that is not original or that is defective. faulty charger could also be the cause .

Seems that all Notes are ticking bombs, you never know when its gonna explode and kill you.

Probably the new batteries on N7 now dont explode right away, but after 365 days xD

its an old phone!! i hate samsung for its latest non removeable battery but this is ridiculous.. its a conspiracy

yes, investigation is required. These phones had not problems before but they are showing up now after Note 7 issue. Smells something fishy.. from Samsung competitors ... may be :D

Samsung is using poor quality batteries since the beginning.
If we remember, S1, S2, S3 and S4 were good phones but suffer from poor battery life.
Its not always the OS that needs optimization. There are other manufacturers using the same OS but provides good battery life.

I have seen Samsung batteries swell up but never catching a fire 🔥 well well this has been going on dor sometime now jus not on this scale especially with there new flagship

yeah, I agree with you, I've had nokia phones that have gotten really hot, but never exploded...... so I'm inclined to maybe believe, "someone has paid a lot of money to ruin Samsung's reputation" and it only takes one person to ruin something.....

No excuse left for samsung fanboys other than conspiracy theories. LOL.

Even if the battery was in operation for 3 years it is not supposed to inflate and explode. Only the charge capacity should decay. Inflation happens when the battery controller fails and the cells get overcharged.
It happens mostly with demo units which are turned on and plugged in 24/7 for months. Normal usage shouldn't do that.
The note 7 battery could get an internal short-circuit which then heated up the battery and exploded. It is totally different.

That corporation that wants Samsung to be gone really bases itself on people's ignorance. I mean every phone can explode. Older phone are really more likely to do so. And this phone IS old (and unsupported). My sister had a iPhone 4s, and we had to replace the battery because it grew at a point that it broke the back-panel glass. That phone could've exploded! But we took care of it, so it did not.
