3 things that comes to my mind about all this. #1 Karma, for getting too full of themselves. #2 Lack of focus. Why the hell A series, C series, J, S, Z...? God knows what else. They release so many different versions of the phones, that it is hard to focus on making them right. Just push them out of the door, faster, more more more. Wrong! Reduce the number of phones released every year, but make sure you get them spot on. Why? #3 You think their financial problems will be over soon and will pick it up? Wrong. After announcement of dropping Note 7 their market share went down 8%...in just one day. Since their engineers failed to find the certain reason why this whole thing is happening, every next phone they are releasing will be potentially faulty too. And even if they find the problem, a lot of people will wait a year or 2, just to be on the safe side, until others will test it first. Fallout from this one mistake is far from being over, in fact it only began. I'm not really trying to hate on Samsung but as the company, they let me down after brilliant S2 and S3 series, when they started changing their business model, and getting full of themselves (just like old Nokia did), so they had it coming. Nice to see the man himself apologising publicly, but then again what other choice does he have, after such a huge PR bomb?

No surprise at the comments because readers here hate everything except bathing in rivers and train surfing to get to work.

Anyways, despite all your guys hate, Samsung will recover. If anything this was a good wake up call for them and they'll come back and hit a home run with the next one.

Mkdc, 13 Oct 2016Don't worry, they will not lose the smartphone sales king..... moreI think you got it all wrong, my friend. 20-30 millions of Note 7 sales? Where did you get that number? Or is it all Note sales? Because as far as official statement goes, Note 7 sold so far in 2.5 millions, and since the worldwide sales has been cancelled, this number won't get any bigger.

Samsung as got to concentrate on pleasing its Galaxy phones users instead of Trying to gain iPhone users to there phones,Copying Apple as cost Samsung loads of lost money,an also upset a lot of Galaxy phone users,Note 4 and Galaxy S5 offered the removable battery & micro sd card slot, then instead of pleasing the Note 4 or S5 users we lost these Best selling options on the Note 5 and Galaxy S6 phones, then the Sales was not that good just because they thought iPhone users would switch to these phones but it Failed,Now rushing out the Note 7 just because of Apple were going to release the iPhone 7 phones as cost Samsung Billions of pounds,Hope now Samsung realise that having batteries concealed in there phones cause more problems for there phones and removable batteries is a easy solution when things start to go wrong and we want this back on All there phones not just there Budget phones

samsung should change the internals of note 7 with that of the S7 edge, keeping the screen size at 5.7 and the S pen and releasing it as 'S7 edge+ with S Pen'

.alpha, 13 Oct 2016Lier lier pants on fire. If you actually spend the time ... moreSounds like Bill & Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Apple also lied the camera lens on the 7 was sapphire crystal. I guess they are all liars.

I agree with others. This news keeps going for way too long. Move on, people. I prefer if Samsung won't dump the Note branding but it just a naming scheme. They can call it mud and as long as the phone is awesome, people will buy it. Since when is the name of a phone so important to buyers?

Once Mobile World Congress in March announces the Galaxy S8 and X (foldable screens), people will easily forget about the Note7 debacle. We live in the ADHD era that consumes news and forgets about things quickly. This applies to iPhone 7/7+ owners. Just wasting money at ugly bezels when iPhone 8 should be the one to wait for.

2017 flagships are going to be awesome. If there is any year to skip an upgrade, it should be 2016. The only phones that seem to grab my attention now is the LG V20 (removable battery) and affordable iPhone SE. None of the 7 phones will age well once Samsung and Apple take it to a higher level next year.

Samsung needs to recover next year and Apple will ante up for iPhone's 10th year anniversary with the 8. Skip the 7. Unlucky. Wait for 8 which could be great. 8 is also a lucky number to the Chinese where alot of phones are made including ones from Sony, Samsung, and LG. Lucky 888.

The next Note phone or whatever they call it is really the Note7. While iPhone 8 should really be called iPhone 11. Karma on Samsung for skipping the devil number this year which suffered fires from hell.

Mr. Koh, we all know that you are done with Samsung and will be removed from your position before the end of this year (Samsung does their promotion / demotion in the beginning of December) so why not come clean about this fiasco?

Customer's safety is your first priority?
My ass, you guys had to do the first recall cause its getting out of your control (if it was something like LG's bootloop, we all know you guys will just replace those board and tell us to shut up or no warranty)

If you really think that our safety is even your second priority,
You guys should've spent more than at least a week to find out what the problem is and go from there before the first recall but only took you guys less than a day to come up with your BS excuse ("its not us, its the batteries made by SAMSUNG SDI")

Omar Mohamed, 13 Oct 2016Note Series is Really in Danger Now! I really wish Samsung... moreIt'll be even worse than the n7 fiasco ... If they lose the note lovers they'll lose their customers permeantly ... At least I'm not gonna buy Samsung phones ever then

Samsung will be a big looser if they drop the note series ... Note is what differentiates Samsung from the others .... Epic fail decision it'll be

This is why iphone keeps there phone pretty simple and only adds a feature when its already beta tested by others . But seriously how did Samsung screwed up this much ?
