Nokia announces music phones

The Walkman range definitely sounds better, but these phones being Nokia....would have an advantage, regards reliability n support. And that, sometimes, makes all the difference for customers, who have neither the time, nor the inclination, to run around getting their phones fixed. Id like to know whether the above handsets also run on Symbian OS, if yes, then which version....

These phones look like they were made by fisher-price for little kiddies!
Man these phones will never stand a chance against the walkman line......

sony always has the best features..and the camera is really really gr8 plus most nokia an motorola fones with mem card loads rell slow compared 2 the sony..an seriously nokia 2mpx cam not ready for sony 2mpx cam...we all know this..i have compared nokia and sony personaly...i whould stick to the my W800 :D

hey man, don't ever try to compare N5300 to W850 or W830. The price of this babe is much lower.
If you want, try comparing W830 to N3250, they have the same price, you'll see that N3250 is much better than W830 which is very similar interms of functions, UI and everything to most of SE phones. Just the difference in design !
And oh God, please do not say that this one is a copy of the W600, are u blind man ? W600 is so bad interms of design.
Also, the Nokia music series have N70, N73 and N91 music edition which i think that there is no SE walkman phone now have come up with 9GB harddisk, 3.2 MP camera, sterio speakphone, 3.5 mm jack, symbyan 9.0, and many more.
So if you like to compare Walkman phones to Nokia music phone, please try, LOL

Hey, It's funny that for the Sony W850 most of sony fanboys say that it's beautiful and attractive but if the W850 were Nokia's, they would say that it's so ugly, the shape is so ridiculos and it sucks
Things are the same to all other sony & nokia phones
Be wiser man, just be fair to the design. This 5300 has nice sporty design and colour
And remember that before criticise any phone, please think carefully abt the price of the phone and the customer segment that the phone aims at. Don't just look at the functions. If u like the function, try to compare any phone to the king N95
The N5300 may have 1.3Mp (not comparable to 2.0 of W810 or W850) , weaker battery, low internal memory.
But the main screen is much bigger and better, and the price is just 250EUR to compare with 450EUR of W850 and 400EUR of W830. So which one would u choose ? This phone has it own attractiveness right!

The batteries are bothering me, 3h10min isn´t a very long time if you are listening to music. The SE Walkman phones play up to 8 hours...

Look at these :
Nokia got their Xpressmusic series.
Sony Ericsson got their Walkman series.
Motorola got their Rokr series.
I bet it's gonna be fun when we see these phone manufacturers fight each other in the next few years.

price its nokia biggest advance so if nokia pulls the 5300 worldwide FAST sony ericsson walkmans will suffer.

tarantula, no, w850/830 sound quality is worse than w950 and n91, they are two kings!
And you are right, w830 is 5300 competitor, hope SE will sell 830 for a good price!

Yes, you are right when say that new player in Xpress music series is on par with walkman v1.0 but remember that: since W950 SE with W850/W830 SE uses version 2.0 of walkman player that is better than the N91 player, play now and gracenote track ID feature.
And audio quality in W850/830 is in the same level with W950 and N91, it means great!
Well, the direct competitor to the 5300 is the W830, and the difference isnt only in camera, life time too (5300=Li-ion 760mAh, W830=Li-pol 900mAh), even the UI in SE is more practical (my own taste) that allows multitasking (up 3 java programs at the same time), comes with better headset, better bluetooth work like a SE tradition and 1Gb memory stick duo pro.
I dont know what is the size of the memory card in 5300 package, but the price of w830 is cheaper in comparisson to w850 because the lack of videocall camera and UMTS, 5300 cost around 250e without taxes and subsidies, the final price depends of your country and dealer but i think that the final 5300 price will come close to the w830 price.
Put the complete facts on the table and choose wich is better!

Yes, SE delay their new launch... no rumors and nothing, but i hope that next SE launch will be a bomb, like previous launchs... i hope too that usual delaying time in SE phones cut in the future.
UiQ is a lot buggy and slow now, but this situation remember me P800; the evolution of the OS finally got in the P910, almost perfect smartphone; is only a pure matter of time.

Hmm good to see some nice discussion going on here.
As a discreet observer let me add some few lines for "Dreadnought".
I dont cliam to be a Blind supporter of Samsung, but I like their designs.
Its true that they have identical looking phones and not just one..too many in the market. Its easy to loose track of what is what. But if you follow their marketing strategy you would know, thats what they want to do. They offer same design in different segments..be it entry-level..mid-range or hight-range, so that everyone can afford it and have one. Of course you loose the exclusivity factor. How do you differenciate between Z350 and E370? Its simple, all Z series Samsung are 3G. The dimensions are diffent..E370 is smaller low-end phone without memory slot. anyways I dont wnna brag about what is what. But for aurguments sake one can say the same thing about SE phones these days..there are identical models and if you are not reading the details you wont know the differences.
Anyway guys keep up the good discussion and keep it healthy. Cheers!

But if you don't know ANYTHING, please do some research before post.
1. New nokia music player is on par with walkman from SE
2. Sound quality is on par with walkman phones except the w950 which is the best.
3. N91 and now N91 8GB have the best sound quality for now, on par with w950.
BUT: nokias have nice screens, nice cameras, wi-fi, 3.5mm jack, dedicated and comfortable music keys, and se have no such things...
And also: compare: w850 slider and 5300 slider. They are on par, but nokia costs 250e, and se costs 400e. Only the camera plays difference. Do extra 0.7 megapixels cost 150 euro? SE is very overpriced...

Yes, my "colleagues", as you prefer to call them, do sometimes get rather excited. When this happens, they usually post a lot of bull... Your colleagues, the SE fanboys, can be quite the same sometimes. As a SE fan, I´m sure you recognize these quotes which your side has proudly posted:
"all nokia fones suxx cuz se is the best with walkman and cz. se rulzzz!!!1111"
Not so different from what my so called colleagues have come up with, don´t you think? My point here is that every brand has it´s own fanboys (or maybe not Tel.Me. :P) and they are all quite much the same. I hope we can rise above these guys and keep up some sort of civilized standard in our discussions - since I really think it´s fun to argue now and then.
Yes, I am a Nokia fan, I like the timeless style in their design (not some ridiculous Star Trek thing like in the W850 for example) and the wide variety of models. On the other hand, I don´t like the fact that the build quality of certain models (the sliders for example) is very poor, also the Symbian instabilities are regrettable.
I do not conside myself to be a blind person in any way, that´s why I am a bit sorry if you consider me as one.
I don´t hate SE and actually like the W950 alot for example, I just miss EDGE and quad-band GSM. I know that you´ll survive without these as there is 3G featured but I still prefer to have them around (that´s why I like the N73).
SE has done some pretty good things yes, especially on the camera front, they really speeded up the camera development with the K750i for example. What I don´t like about SE is the "teeny" designs and many identical models. Also I think that the branding thing (yes, like Carl Zeiss - I know :P) is quite stupid, some odd brandname written on every flat surface on the phone. That´s just my opinion though. By the way, there´s nothing i can´t accept, I don´t deny facts since I don´t hate SE. I simply prefer Nokia.
About Samsung then: Yes, they have pioneered in several fields but i think it´s a bit thick to talk about innovation when the company has currently got 200 models out and the most of them look almost exactly the same! How am I supposed to tell the difference of the Z350 and the E370 for example? Just ridiculous... Otherwise, nice displays and all.
You said that we should be objective, and I´m trying. It´s just hard to see how SE is going to keep up in the high-end race if they don´t release something quick. Call me blind but I don´t see it... UiQ seems to be as complicated and buggy as S60 by the way. Or maybe the people on the P990i forums are just lying, eh?
Oh and Tarantula, do you work in the mobile industry as a dealer or something? Or are you just an discreet observer? Just curious...

If you read carefully the previous post you can read some things, i only respond to it, some of your colleagues (nokia boyz) are crazy thinking that nokia is the ultimate marvel when it isnt, i only remember to you and your troop some facts about the real world... no more
I am a SE fan because high quality specs, considering the fact that SE only has 6% of the market, is possible consider SE as a small phone maker, but SE change the face of the phone industry since T39, T68 and P800 later until now with the latest models, this is a fact that people like you can not accept.
As i say previously i am a SE fan, but i recognize some things and facts, i am not a blind person, for this i recognize that samsung is the most innovative and prolific phone maker, in the same way i admire N95 for example, is a great phone, i only say that most of features already exist in some samsung phones and newness in fact it isnt.

5510 is the first ATTEMPT of music-oriented phone, small memory and no memory card slot, ugly and unpractical design! in this case siemens SL45 is the first attempt in music phones, it was born in 2000 and come with memory card slot and mp3 player... but these two phones never was a success like walkman line

Nokia's really pushing it hard against Sony Ericsson. These are good phones, but I wouldn't really compare them to the Walkman series coz I really think they're a lot better than these three.
I would agree that Nokia should make their face lifts better, and start making handy phones. Nokia develops such huge bricks.

I have to agree with the fact that nokia is stretching the imagination thinking they have the answer to SE's walkman phones. It is impossible. Not even the IPOD slvr can stand up to the w810 in any stretch no less a nokia. LOL.
