Motorola CEO blames Android Market for performance issues

03 June, 2011
Ever wondered why your Andriod smartphone isn't working as well as it should be? Well, Motorola's CEO, Dr. Sanjay Jha, thinks it's because of the open Android Market. He says that because...

This guy must be a comedian or something because he just made me laugh so much I was struggling to breathe. His comments must have been intended as a joke otherwise it's a failed troll job. Motorola takes a step forward and then proceed to take 3 backwards immediately after and that is why their phones performance suck. Ask him to explain why other manufacturers don't have the same issue with the same open market.

as a milestone 2 owner and a software engineer, let me tell you that I would never support releasing such buggy software as BLUR. the phone hungs for unexplained reasons, the clock stops working, sometimes when going from a text input to the home will keep the v.keyboard open in the home screen, sometimes it will not render the icons on the home screen, the unlock screen is laggy, opening the dialer will duplicate contact pictures to the wrong contacts and so on and so forth...

I do agree that open Android market may have cause some fragmentation in performance and functionality as different OEMs are allowed to customise the Android codes. However, Motorola must not be complacent as Android has helped it to go back to the mobile market. Otherwise, Motorola is like a past in most of mobile consumers.

Partly i agree with him. But thats not the only reason. Motorola has failed to make a good skin on top of Android. Other manufacturers have successfully modified Android to their liking with performance tweaks to make it work better with their hardware. Examples are HTC with Sense and Samsung with TouchWiz.

It appears, they have just lost it. Any forced skinning or UI is a nuisance. Why are you dying? because you are selling locked down phones which people can't fix and you are not willing to update. The openness of android its USP. And corporates like moto just want to mess it up. Remember the original droid, it was a hit because it was open, just learn and try to be like Samsung,LG, or HTC.

Oh. Is it really the Android App Market that needs to be blamed? Hmmmm... I smell something fishy here!

IT REALLY IS EASY TO DESPISE SOMETHING WHAT YOU CANNOT GET. And in the case of Motorola, I guess it just goes to show that their expectations on the sales of their Android-based smartphones were not met. And the consequence? They are now sour-graping the Android Market!

LOL. Picture it this way. Suppose you are a mother and you bought a whole-dressed chicken from the supermarket for your son's party and cook it for the guests. And then, it turns out the guests didn't like the way the chicken was cooked because it tastes bad.
Now the question is, is it really viable to go blame the supermarket just because the chicken YOU YOURSELF COOKED was not particularly liked by the guests on your son's party? Surely, it is the one who cooked the chicken that needs to be blamed and NOT the supermarket where you bought the chicken!

              Nuff said

Motorola is one of the successful brand in mobile world in US , why the same response or service is not available in India and why it has such a poor reputaion of not being good hand set? What are the service facilities of one has to buy a smartphone.

What absolute rubbish. In my experience, its MotoBlur that causes more slowdown than any of the apps on the Marketplace - many of which do a damn sight better job of basic phone functions than the manufacturer's own software does.

Do I have to file this CEO's comment under the BS or LOL label?
I do not have a MOTOBLUR(p) phone so I file it under LOL.

Motorola only needs to looks himself in the mirror. Not admitting your own mistakes is the first sign of a failure.

                                An irresponsible comment indeed.

I got a Defy too. Blur is a pain in the @rse. If I could switch it off I'd be happy but as I can't it's unlikely I'd buy another Motorola again. My overall experience has been mediocre, at best (having to send phone for repair after 1 month due to a failed ear piece, failed software updates, stuck on 2.1, buggy as hell etc).

as i bought defy it was laggy at all. if i used eg. awd launcher instead of blur it was floating fine.
