Nokia 2 to get Oreo update soon, but there's a catch

25 January 2019
The 1GB of RAM has proven too limiting for a phone not running Android Go edition.

Nokia 2 I found was a terrible phone most apps would struggle and put up a error screen, the lag on FB was so bad I downloaded FB Lite it ran somewhat better but you don't have as many features on the lite version. Don't get me wrong its a beautifully crafted handset but its a real disappointment in terms of usability in 2019, I will add I used it when first came out so no updates so I am unsure if it got better with updates maybe someone could let me know..

Nonetheless, it's still impressive that all the other models are getting it.

          Hmm

          I guess that should be
" it’s not allowed to install Go on a phone that launched with regular Android"
          or?
It must be a Google limitation somewhere...

Google should make 2GB RAM mandatory for CTS compatibility/pass as well as Android-go minimum.

Peter-B, 25 Jan 2019Well, entire lineup aside from the Nokia 2.It will get it as an option, just not OTA but through their website.

So the Nokia 2 gets Oreo with 8GB of internal storage and 1 GB of RAM but I can't even get Nougat on a similar specced phone. Thanks, LG!

[deleted post]That my friend is quite incorrect

Kudos to Nokia for admitting performance loss and not shying away from telling the truth.

Still thanks Nokia for the effort. Other manufacturers won't even think of software update for a entry level phone like Nokia 2. I had XpressMusic 5800, the experience was great. Nokia had been giving software update even in Symbian on a regular basis.

Nokia 2 Oreo update won't be in OTA, Instead It will be in Web Page. Nokia 2 won't be moving to Android Go

I wouldn't bother to upgrade if it means a loss in overall performance but I would only upgrade to Oreo if there is a useful feature that I would need. Although, I have to say that it is great that HMD is updating these low end phones unlike Samsung.

This was a complete lack of foresight. Furthermore, Nokia is no longer good at updates and they only have been at it for two years.
