The first iteration when Android is built, is to compete with RIM. But Apple went ahead with touchscreen gizmo. So the Android dev team alter the competition target to iOS. Hence, the UI foundation. As for the kernel, is totally different like you said (Android using linux and iOS using darwin).

This is just ridiculous. There are other touch screen devices out there and Apple are embarrasing themselves with this. I own an iPhone but I'm never buying any Apple product again.

I as a iphone user got to say I feel proud right now cuz I saw all this android fanatics who praies to android and google...But to be honest no good comes from this development will be dreg down cuz of this lawsuits not apple alone...Android its not google 100% they as many others ,apple included inspire from competition...And in the big picture you guys dont see it but acutly its who's the best company apple vs google...thats why android attack apple and apple attacked android...Its NOT samsung with 100 models who 95 are low cost and low spec or htc or anyother vs apple its to gigantic companys fighting for supremacy...Keep in mind there are bilions of dollars

Steve Job's will is to provide customers new experiences in technology. Since he's no longer here, APPLE should have carried his will and thinks about producing something new in stead of wasting time on this lawsuit.

If Apple is best of the best, then Apple should show us something innovative & not keeping playing with patent infringements with their competitors. Healthy competition are better for product improvement & it was definitely will benefits most of parties, especially customer. Customer have to right to choose which smartphone company to buy, not like what Apple trying do, to ban sales on other competitors that seem to be stronger than Apple.

Apple is trying to monopolise the technology industry here not license out patents for 10 messily dollars. For every phone Apple sells, they're profiting an excess of $100, imagine if all HTC, Samsung devices were banned from sales, that would be 50% of Android's market shares that Apple can potentially attain. The reason Apple is not bothering with Motorola, LG and SE is because the market share they own is minute compared to the 2 Android giants HTC and Samsung.

Apple's behavior is really annoying. I admire apple's innovations but as a consumer who constantly hear about apple's selfishness by throwing lawsuits to all android manufacturers, all these things saturate into the consumer's mentality that make us sick and turn our back against apple. This is the reason why I advise all my friends and my family not to patronize any apply products.

Apple needs to stop thinking they own the world. Sure some of their patents have been infringed upon. But not many, at least not anything they came up with. And it would not be by any one company in particular. And they have infringed on many many many many many patents themselves. They have also stolen many ideas and most of their patents are stolen ideas or something that was already around. They don't invent or make things. They just assemble other companies hardware, software and ideas. Then sell it for more then anything else and somehow how have this big name with power, money, and popularity.

Apple had this kind of attitude towards sharing IP rights since it was founded. It also always pushed for its own "standards" that nobody else wanted to use e.g. ports and connectors and the one-buttoned mouse (how a one-buttoned mouse could be superior to a two-buttoned mouse is beyond me). For the much of Apple's existence the general public didn't bother about all that, because Apple was a niche company making niche expensive equipment for very geeky people. Not until recently did Apple gain a significant share in any market. Then the IP hell broke loose.

i can buy 10 iphones for my dog if my dog know to make phone calls and sending sms.
