Iphones are and always will be just a fashion statement. Android was slow to start with but will dominate the market in the next year. Iphones are quite limited to licenses and other software and as said in this news thread, the Androids are a easy for developers.
Personally I think someone who is coming from a standard phone to their first smartphone, should go for something like a Windows, as its very simple and user friendly which will be perfect for a new smartphone user to get to grips with.

idei, 08 Feb 2012newcomers choose android just bcos the phone is CHEAPER cmp... moreYeah... so what? It is cheaper to get and offers better hardware for that and softwarewise they are on par... at least my opinion. Isnt the goal of a product reaching the market, being able to sell it as cheap as possible for consumers and still make a lot of money with it? Is that a bad thing? If iPhone were cheaper to get, that might change things... bit what I think is the bad part about you is, that you seem so fed up with your iOS and just cannot take that a device is more popular, even if it is cheaper... the white glowing thing is no special anymore, everybody has seen ir glow white, if you want to impress somebody witb it again, go to the past or some culture who lives deep inside the dschungel without electronics.

[deleted post]Very misguided statement. In actual fact, the very popular retina display of Iphone is manufactured by one of it's biggest competitors, Samsung and they also make half the other parts on the Iphone. Samsung has decided to keep the good stuff to themselves though (Super Amoled + anyone...) and wont be licensing or selling to other suppliers. So please go for your I-phone with second rate parts and twice the price.

[deleted post]That may be the case in the USA but in the UK the iPhone is affordable. That being said my prediction would be that Android is going to drop market share this year. I also wonder if Apple can keep repeating the success without a complete UI update it really is starting to look old.

Only new user... moreI wonder whp you are talking about, cuz I only know people who switched from iOS to Android, but not the other way around... why? because here in germany iphone costs twice as much as other phones and it aint really better, so what are you paying for?

[deleted post]The iPhone 4 and 3gs are free or very cheap. Apple makes more profit per phone sold than any other phone model. Their phones are cheap to make but they charge the amount of a high-end 4g android phone. Meaning, iPhone users are getting ripped off...and enjoying it. Why don't you guys just get 4G phones?

I think the easiest is Nokia Symbian S60 phone. It's not flashy, but it works reliably as a "smartphone" OS.

iOS and WP7 have too many limitation.
                  Android is too techie.

I think iOS and WP are easier to use than Android.

On the other hand, Android devices are cheaper and very flexible for developers and those who are interested in more customization.

In terms of apps, iOS has more apps in general, but Android has more free or even cheaper apps.

iOS and WP are sometimes smoother and more stable than Android.

I think it's very silly trying to say which is best because it all depends on "Personal preferences". In other words, what do you want from your smartphone!

android was the best , is the best and will b the best ... its just like a portable laptop in ur hand which has a wide range of selections .. u can do every thing with u android device just like u use ur pc ... apple just keeps on pulling the money out of ur pocket first with the device thn with its apps , it feels like u are handcuffed with its limits. where as android is like an open sky ..

Mike, 08 Feb 2012Is this really suprising. Really? There are poor people too... morei agree with Mike... I wont compare the iOS to Android... both have their strengths and weaknesses but the majority of buyers in the world cant afford expensive devices like an iphone so they'll prefer buying cheaper smartphones ergo android... but irrespective of the amount of competition Apple faces it is doing amazing business and bringing out quality oriented products... in the end everyone buys a phone taking into consideration their own pockets... so comparing iOS to Android is useless, to me atleast...

iPhone fan here, but how is this surprising? The fact that iPhone with three models is keeping pace with android at all is phenomenal. There is space in the market for competition, even WP7 can enter as the market is fast growing. Competition benefits the consumers.

                                  Hei,

A lot of people don't know what they're buying and don't really care. Since the Iphone is one of the most expensive smartphones it's only natural that their choice is to buy an Android phone which is much less expensive + you can get it in a lot of different shapes/colors.

Whilst i am an Andriod user lets not forget that there are only 2 to 3 iphones available in total for new buyers whilst theres are loads of different andriod phones available at all price levels so i dont think it could be a a fair comparison i wonder what it would come back at if it was based on a comparable device only!

Ofcourse more people ar egoing to buy cheaper Andriod that are available for 100 euros than a 600 euro Iphone. Im suprised That Apple is doing so well with so few and expensive smartphones.
