mgt, 19 Jun 2012What makes a awesome smartphone? A phone that does what you... moreAgree almost with everything except for one point. I owned N73, N82 and currently N8. I also wanted my phone to do everything for me. I wanted to have all my devices - compass, MP3 player, camera, camcorder and such in one device. But one thing is still missing in N8 - zoom. I tried to use only 3MP resolution (enough for any practical purposes - I used to print 11"x8" perfect images taken by my N73, not even talking about watching on the computer), and use 2x zoom. But the guys did not come up with the algorithm. The quality was poor. Simple test - take 12MP picture, and then crop 1/4 (say left upper quarter). Then, using N8 zoom, do the same and the quality in the second case is much-much worse. So, yes, N8 can do everything, but it cannot zoom. Besides, because of oversampling I expect the quality of low light pictures to be much better. I could live with slower processor, but it is difficult to live with no zoom.

AnonD-58791, 19 Jun 20125) Symbian is outdated: Plain and simply put Symbian f... moreIt's nonsense that Symbian has no QWERTY portrait keyboard (FYI: the N8 also got this a long time ago) or that it is outdated. Symbian is still the most advanced and most ressource-friendly smartphone OS on the market, period. The only reason it sucks is because of Nokia's sloppiness in its development. Hadn't Nokia messed up completely then Symbian would have again lead the smartphone market (as it once did).

The PV808 is certainly a good phone with a great camera, but it also demonstrates how slow and tiresome the internal development processes in this company have been. This phone should have come out at least a year ago, and if not then by today it should not really come with an outdated OS that has already been declared dead and has been abandoned by most of it's third party developers.

what wow, 19 Jun 2012Iphone 4s has the ExmorR sensor from Sony...same as Sony Xp... moreYou're not very bright, are you? FYI: the iPhone 4S produces better pictures because it doesn't use Sony's crap image processing algorythms but used their own.

But go ahead and just compare MP numbers. At the end of the day, phone manufacturers like Sony need you to buy their latest crap.

what lol, 19 Jun 2012are you for real ? 12 mp ExmorR sensor not good for photogr... moreNo, I'm not high, but I'm also not stupid and can use Google. Just have a look at all the complaints in the Sony Mobile forum re. poor image quality and out of focus images of the Xperia S. Read and learn.

Oh, btw, all this Exmor R crap is just marketing BS. There is absolutely nothing special about what Sony calls 'Exmor R', it's a 08/15 sensor. Sony just made up some buzzword to impress the clueless.

What makes a awesome smartphone? A phone that does what you want it to do, right? I purchased my Nokia n8 because it did what I wanted it to do...I paid for the unlocked full value 4 months after it came out I wanted an awesome camera that I can share very good and accurate pictures with friends and family on the fly, and I've received numerous compliments about my phone and its photographic capabilities and a xenon flash. I was taking photos by a tourist attraction at night and family with a new Motorola Droid, a couple with a new iPhone, and another couple with an HTC something (I remember because I asked) gave me their email addresses so I could take their picture and send it to them... they were unhappy with how their pictures turned out and noticed that my phone's xenon flash took very good pictures of my daughter behind a super lighted decorated area.

I wanted to listen to my music. I wanted to send text msgs, I wanted to watch videos sitting at the aiport terminal and let my little girl play some games on it, I wanted to get online with flash content, I needed to be able to make calls from another country and not incurr huge roaming fees, I needed to be able to check 4+ e-mails with a swipe or 2, I wanted all these things and my Nokia n8 filled that void. I didn't need an insane resolution or a screen larger than my palm (to me it wasted battery life), I didn't need power hungry processing, I didn't need the complexity that android has in all it's untapped power "to do ANYTHING" , I didn't want to jailbreak my phone just to claim I could... I didn't need to be connected all the time to the internet (got a 200mb plan when I can barely break 135MB a month), I didn't want to stream music or videos unless i was at home.

the symbian platform fit my needs perfectly and yes, my processor was slow, it lagged, but I had a dedicated video processor for taking pictures and handling video which is what the 808 does, I could connect someone's camera to my phone and download their pictures on the fly which the 808 does, I can put my phone in ANY car and play my mp3 library in it with the FM transmitter, from home I can play my videos of my little daughter singing fly-me-to-the-moon on the big screen TV without a cable, I can do GPS turn-by-turn without connecting to the internet... and I have a portrait style keyboard and love swyping, I can do all this with 3 menu screens which the 808 does and more!

Now the 808 is coming soon and I will save my pennies to acquire this one because it can do everything my lowly 658Mhz n8 can do but to a grandeur scale!

I've used Android on a myTouch4G, I've used the iOS, and I feel very proficient in each, I've even dabbled in the Windows Phone OS for a bit, but I always end up going to my n8 because it's overall versatility for me. I don't live in a cave, or under a rock although I don't get out nearly as much... but I can take bad with good, and to me the 808 is all good (sans high price)

                  5) Symbian is outdated: Plain and simply put Symbian feels like windows XP in front of awesome mac or brilliant vista. Yes it can work but it’s not a speed merchant and terribly outdated. One example is the lack of portrait QWERTY in n8, I mean it’s such a basic feature that not having it is a glaring miss. Another one is the lack of proper implementation of widgets, there is very handful widgets and poorly implemented. All in all, outdated! It’s not all dooms for Nokia though, they still make the best hardware, awesome camera and great battery life which will have its followers, but for how long? It would soon come to the fact that even the most diehard fans would be forced to go looking for better things unless windows phone 7 support is a bigger success than what it currently is. However, buying a high end Nokia smartphone right now, definitely is not a very good step.

Look at all the complaints in the Sony Mobile forum. And even without these problems it's even behind the iPhone 4S' 8MP snapper, and worlds appart from the Nokia N8's 12MP camera.
