Also show us the same on the particular Gingerbread ROM which you mentioned. This issue has been going on since release and there are lots of threads with thousands of posts describing this issue at XDA without any solutions so far. We didnt get our devices for "free" to just let this pass. We have this issue and have been going through it without a solution. I myself havent seen a single device which does not exhibit this issue. I sometimes do software service for phones as a hobby and a lot of people who are unaware of the technical aspects of a device come to me to get their software updated,etc and so I've come across my share of notes and every device I've seen has exhibited this issue. So kindly prove yourself by uploading a photo of your Note running the test.

I doubt if the gamma test with the png file is the right method to check. I repeat that I have installed different custom roms as well as stock roms and everytime I get different results but video quality is more than sufficient for me, no burnouts at all. BTW mine is international galaxy note GT N7000, my brother has the same and we both dont have such problems. I am pretty much sure after reading the previous comments that this problem is mainly with US version.

I smell some people who are on Samsungs payroll, if your device is not affected, why are you passing comment. I have had three Galaxy Notes, all have had black clipping. My cousins Note has black clipping, my bosses Notes has the black clipping, and a few Notes I tested in store with the gamma test image Failed with a steep drop to black between 4 and 3. People with perfect Notes please stay out of this, you got what you paid for, I among many many others, did not. Thanks.

Hmmm, so where are all the android fanboys that were claiming that the Note is a flawless device? Some of you Fandroids make me sick. Lying to make your device seem like it's great when you know that it's not.

Guys no need to worry as I have tested this on various roms and stock GB and ICS roms and I confirm that this is totally a software glitch.
I downloaded both the testing PNG and sample video of Glee in HD and tsted on different roms. I get different color patterns in different roms. No problem with GB N7000DDLC1 rom, no problem with crieskelo rom, runs perfectly alright even in dark. But I get display issue on stock ICS like N7000DDLPA and on other custom roms.
Please test this yourselves first and then post your comments.

Imo it's all down to a personal preference which screen is 'better'. I have no complains or issues with the screen on my Xperia S either :)

Just a little totally unrelated side note on the note...anyone running android 2.3.6 still, try going to settings and where it says which androod version you are running, keep tapping it if you are running 2.3.6 and it will take you to a picture of a zombie gingerbread man beside the android and a bunch of zombies! It says picture by Jack Larsen... Enjoy.

I am the creator of the You Tube video embedded in this article. I have recently updated my Note to the official ICS release via Kies. Now my blacks clip at #7 on the gamma test pattern (6 and lower are solid black.) All this did was move the black clipping problem to the grays. I know that a lot of owners claim to have a Note that does not have this problem, but I have yet to hold one in my hands to confirm it.

AnonD-48819, 13 Jul 2012Sammy is "in" these days so people will still sel... moreEveryone has their preferences but you might want to check your "facts" - the GS3 exploded because it had been water damaged and tampered with, which seemed to be a deliberate attempt to sabotage Samsung's name. Samsung were unable to make their phone explode except by putting it in a microwave; the person dropped his claim that Samsung was at fault. Crapple would have sued him into the next life. Samsung appear to have let it go, they're too busy selling phones.

Giri, 13 Jul 2012Black Clipping and EMMC brick bug issues are very well know... moreFor the thousand time, eMMC is not a bug, it's safety mechamism by Samsung to prevent tainting the original software. Let me guess, you are trying to flash a custom ICS ROM. Don't blame Samsung that you do not know how to work around it, it pretty simple. Advice, flash to Gingerbread ROM first and then flash a custom ICS ROM.

I have discovered this issue the first day i bought my Note. I bought it within 2 weeks after the launch in India. My phone has this problem. but there are some Notes out there which does not have this problem at all... dont know what to do..! :(

Black Clipping and EMMC brick bug issues are very well known to Samsung, but only the fix does not seem to come from them yet. Instead, they are rolling out ICS 4.0.4 updates across the world !!!!
Really sad & disgusting :(
