guys i was planning to buy explorer phone of HTC but i read they will not give android update for this phone......... can u guys tell me which phone should i buy now ?

why all this moaninh the HTC desire HD is not getting ics. and who cares. i have a phone that will get ics. and i cant wait. just see all this fuss. there is probably lots of phones that wont run ics.

You should see a slow death of Android when Windows Phone 8 released. With the desktop Windows NT kernel running on WP8, pretty much there is nothing that Windows Phone 8 can't do.
Here are the reasons why WP8 is no brainer over Android. OTA (over the air) updates for all WP8, WP supports Snapdragon chips only for better optimized performance, stability, and much higher apps/DirectX games compatibility than Android (no DirectX for Android), and Microsoft Office is free on WP8.

That risk is there, but like xiaomi mobile, they write a backup app for all personal data and it worked fine, therefor the excuse for htc is indeed lame, the phone was one of the best out there n had such successes. The Sony mini pro had lower specs but able to get ics

hahahaha... that was a great joke !!! i guess HTC isnt aware of a function called "backup" .
I dont know which is worse, the fact that they sell out their customers like that, or that they make fun of them with such idiotic excuses ?

Do not bother HTC I will get S3 :) Desire was a good phone but it is outdated similar to HTC execs thinking :)

OMG lol ,
Developers ported Jellybean , even to 3 year old windows phone htc hd2 , but htc cant even update Desire HD to ICS.

Its evident that they are just making excuses for not releasing the latest Android for there 2 year old product which earned them loads of success in past. All user data can be backed up so even if the partition gets reformatted then also there is no any loss in "USER EXPERIENCE" they are talking about. Moreover excitement of using ICS will be much more than the loss of user data if any.

Given the fact that there are so many ways to save data before updating, HTC's explanation is indeed a very lame excuse. Quite a shame. The Desire HD is by all means an excellent phone that would have been given a new lease of life with the ICS upgrade. It is such in the face of such a disappointment that could lead such owners to disenchantment and move to other brands. It's a shame to say the least.

That is the problem with Android...fragmentation, fragmentation, fragmentation...and yes I know about XDA but the average consumer doesn't. I had the HTC HD and loved the phone, loved to customize it but not getting the latest version when the phone has the specs to handle it (and other lower powered Androids are getting ICS) is a turn off.

Desire S has even less internal storage then Desire HD. Shall we expect HTC to cancel that update, too?

So just preface the update notification with a several pop-ups ensuring the customer has backed up all their data to a home PC or an SD card. Even contacts can be saved as .vcf.
Seems a bit of a lame excuse to be frank.

So, they can't update because of their own software choice will lead users to potentially loose data. Even though there's a ton of backup software available. Basically, they're admitting they're incompetent.

they could make the update available through PC and not OTA, so that user stuff gets backed up and the device can be repartitioned

How come when i updated my sony ericsson Live with walkman to ICS I don't loose anything, even my messages and phonebooks including my calendar, nice
