07 March, 2013
The Xperia J follows the footsteps of the Xperia T, TL and V. Xperia TX should be next on the list.

Are there any news for XPERIA P? It's quite disappointing that Xperia P still has no JB compared to SIII Mini which has the same chipset.

Sparrow, 07 Mar 2013Makes sense. RAM usage in Sony's ICS build for the Sola is ... moreThanks! I actually thought about buying myself a Sola, but got out of the deal just when Sony announced that it would not update it to JB. And this update in particular is really important to me, as it would be my first Android phone. And don't get me wrong, but after years of using iPhones and Windows Phones, you really can't stand laggy UX animations that make you perceive your device as underpowered. I've read that this Project Butter wizardry sorts it out finally, forcing the UI to be rendered in 60 fps with top priority (like on iOS, for one). But since no JB for the Sola, I got myself an Xperia P.

Fair point about that "you're welcome" mention, sorry for that! It wasn't meant to be sarcastic though. It was rather my rant on Sony telling us "we will not update your phone beyond already old 4.0, but as a consolation we will let you know why. Here, an explaination for all of you to cherish, totally free! 'Cause you totally care about the RAM, the UI rendering framerate and the graphics buffer, and you totally should! After all, you just bought not only a phone, but a *smart*phone! And it's like a little nuclear power plant inside your pocket. So why don't you grow some balls and take this chance to learn more about the Linux kernel, graphics rendering and our marketing strategy. That's free, too. You're welcome." And I understand the technical obstacles, but if they really wanted to, they would get the Sola and the rest of the family past the ICS update. iPhone 3GS came out in 2009 and still runs the latest version of iOS. Nokia released Belle update to Symbian along with new models, but ported it down to older devices within a couple of months, and these 2010 devices still get updates, even after Nokia ditched Symbian altogether. And we're talking about 680 MHz 256 MB devices here (the 3GS and the N8). If you try hard enough, you sure can. Thanks, Sony! "You're welcome."

And this is how Sony slaps their own customers in the face. The XJ has worse hardware than any 2011 Xperia handset, yet older devices were given the could shoulder.

The more I hear about this, the more I hate Sony and their bad practices. Don't get me wrong, I do own and actively use my Xperia Mini Pro. It's a great device, but support from it's OEM is just awful. Don't be surprised if Sony's beloved XZ doesn't make it to Android 5.

AnonD-49509, 07 Mar 2013What about the 2011 range? :/ all better than xperia JThe 2011 range was great on gingerbread. Too bad they wasted time and money on the ICS update to make them slower. I think it's good for customers if Sony is NOT wasting more resources on the 2011 models for now.

We need JB for the TX as soon as posipole Sony .

raf, 07 Mar 2013xperia sola has 512 ram but galaxy S3 mini has 1 gb ram and... moreBlame Sony's Timescape UI and their bery poor RAM management. Basically and spec wise, Sola can handle JB.

RAM usage in Sony's ICS build for the Sola is dreadful, it's hard to imagine it actually being worse. Its still no excuse for a mid range 2012 device not getting JB.

Thanks for the info. No need for that sarcastic "you're welcome" at the end of your post, it cheapens your point.
