Ice Universe: Oppo is working on its own smartphone chipset

30 December 2022
We heard a similar rumor a year ago, back then it was claimed that Oppo is targeting TSMC's 3nm node (which ended up being delayed slightly).

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2022Any sort of projection on an economy 80 years in the future... moreThe entire world is dependent upon china for almost all supply chain and it has a population of 1.45 Billion people with an average IQ of 105, they are also bringing Hongkong under the fodde soon with an eye on Taiwan, their rise is going to be stratospheric.

With this , they can afford to spearhead into 22 century while westerners do petty politics over culture, basic human rights etc.,

Latest example is germany doubling down on Huawei technologies as China threatened to ban German cars which could have collapsed Germany, Germany sells 700,000 cars in China compared to mere 235,000 in the US.

inb4 Oppo is in USA's trade ban list.

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2022Huawei is blacklisted because governements believe huawei i... moreThe only reasons why Huawei was banned was to help American corporations and US allies corporations. The rise of Huawei as a smartphone and network leader was a threat to the US economy and thus the US government needs to 'protect its interest'. This ban is highly similar to Alstom and Toshiba cases, and I forgot to add: US may want a technology transfer from Huawei thus the arrest of Meng Wan Zhou.

Ask yourself, if Huawei remained an unknown brand with only a small share of network and smartphone market, would the US do anything? Stop defending US actions, you are just a lapdog.

nowadays manufacturering your own chipset seem to be the best any OEM can do for its business specially if it's Chinese or located in China at least .

Rodolf, 30 Dec 2022This is going in line (pre-planned) with China's ambit... moreI disagree to a point.

I would say *some* companies in China may want to be number 1 but given the US's current approach it's really becoming a necessity for all Chinese companies to vertically integrate in case they're cut off from current supply chains which are heavily US controlled or influenced.

This is going in line (pre-planned) with China's ambitions to become self-dependant in semiconductor, this is achievable in just a few years from now (based on huge government investments in this sector). This is why I think every Chinese smartphone manufacturer will end up in US entity list just like Huawei, because of the ambitions to become world's No.1 smartphone manufacturer (all Chinese manufacturers want that position).

In the end, it's all in favor of competition which benefits the consumers.
