Looks gorgeous.

Get ready to see 8 million YT ads for this device using Google's (illegally imo) discounted ad bidding because the money goes back to Google.

Anyways, storage markups are just 600%. I was expecting 128GB for $1800 and 256GB for $2000 (3000% markup), so yay?

A bit surprising that they chose a pixel size of 1.22 micrometer for the periscope camera. Smaller pixels would achieve a higher "reach" as the periscope camera is not diffraction limited.

Wow! Even better design than Mate X3 and that's all. SOC is 2 generation behind (Cortex X1 instead of Cortex X3), produced on 5 years old node (Samsung 5 is like TSCM 7). This translate to short battery life and problem with heat. No video out from USB-C.
Samsung, copy the size and camera setup (5x tele), put Snap Gen2 for Galaxy, enable Dex and I'will by it for $2000.

Pixel Fold would be if Surface Duo 2 and Oppo Find N2 had a baby....

                    iPhone 13 mini: *131.5* x 64.2 x 7.7 mm
                    Find N: *132.6* x 73 x 15.9 mm
                    Find N2: *132.2* x 72.6 x 14.6 mm
                    Pixel Fold: *139.7* x 79.5 x 12.1
                    Duo 1: 145.2 x 93.3 x 9.9 mm
                    Duo 2: 145.2 x 92.1 x 11 mm
                    Fold 3: 158.2 x 67.1 x 14.4-16 mm
                    Fold 4: 155.1 x 67.1 x 14.2-15.8 mm

I think Pixel Fold is THE ONE for me. Rounded sides. Not the flatter ones that Samsung seems to be pushing for since last year with the S22 Ultra/Fold 4/Flip 4 getting flatter sides which looks to continue again this year. Fingerprint scanner on the side for instant unlocking.

That 139 mm matches nearly the same height as my Nexus 5, HTC One M7, and iPhone 7. That's nearly 16 mm shorter than the Fold 4 while still having the same 7.6" inner display albeit in a 6:5 aspect ratio and still having a smaller footprint in height and thickness.

If only Google had priced this at $999.. Samsung would be sweating and be forced to lower the price on their foldables. I remember when iPhone X first came out, people whined spending $1000 on a phone. If a book-style foldable gets priced at $1000 these days, that's a bargain.

I read the Oppo Find N3 will have an 8" inner display compared to the 7.1" on their previous ones, hence, why the overall footprint will be much bigger. No more sizes like the iPhone 12 & 13 minis. This is why I feel obligated to get this Gen 1 Pixel Fold already. What if they go bigger and get those flatter sides?

I may need to wait until Black Friday to get a really good discount on this. Or I can just wait for Pixel Fold 4 by 2026. I've been reading Google will go to TSMC with the Tensor G5. If Pixel Fold gets released in summers next to the Pixel a-series, that would mean it's always at least 8 months behind the flagship from the previous year.

                    2023: Tensor 3
                    2024: Tensor 4
                    2025: Tensor 5 (TSMC)
                    2026: Pixel Fold 4 using Tensor 5

For the next 2 years, Pixel fans will be stuck with Samsung foundries. Tensor 3 will be no better than Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Still using the Mali GPU and not the AMD one. But if I wait that long, no guarantee I'll enjoy the design and size from that future Pixel Fold 4 we haven't seen yet.

So I might as well go for Gen 1 now and live with all the Gen 1 quirks. It seems a lot more refined for a Gen 1 product. Google took extra care with their first foldable, hence, the 2-year delay. I haven't been excited about a Pixel since the first gen. The one with headphone jack and came with Nougat 7.1 that was smooth as buttah.

Could I be returning to Pixel after a couple of years after mainly using Motorola and Samsung? I just might. Pixel Fold will look great next to my Pixel 3, Z Flip 3, Razr 5G, and iPhone SE (2022). A great addition to my smartphone family. Just not paying $1800. Wait for those $1000+ trade-in deals and additional discounts. I would buy it for $800 or less and it came free with a Pixel Watch. Looks like I might be Team Pixel once again.

                    My Android Trinity
                    Google. Samsung. Motorola.

I don't think Google, along with Huawei, quite comprehend that foldables are no longer as expensive as they were in 2019. This price just isn't standard anymore.

283g??? Holding it for a while would kill your wrist. These things are starting to get ridiculously heavy (and big).

I'll be very fascinated how Michael Fisher will feel when he gets this Pixel Fold and reviews it. He's been using foldables since January 1, 2020. For this entire decade. But he's only been using Samsung foldables for the last 3.5 years. Those other ones are test units. Be curious how he'll feel going to a non-Samsung foldable as a daily driver for the first time in this decade.

I actually really dig it because the Z Fold design never really made sense to me. It's too narrow when closed which makes typing from the front a nightmare. Sure, it's easier to grip but typing sucks. Then it's also too tall when closed. I think Google really nailed the dimensions to this. Short enough that it won't stick out of your pocket. Wide enough to type from the outside. Packs the same 7.6" inner display as the Z Fold 4 even with all those bezels but in a smaller footprint.

I do believe the Z Fold 5 will have better scores than this Pixel Fold. We're comparing a Gen 5 product to a Gen 1. You would think Samsung would figure it out by now after 4 years of foldables. Their software experience should be more refined. Add the fact it has DEX. But I never understood the dimensions for them. Very , very few new smartphones excites me during the last few years but this seems like one of them.

The Pixel Fold 1 is if the Surface Duo and Oppo Find N had a baby. I think this is going to be my favorite smartphone of the year even if it carries more flaws as the Z Fold 5 being that's it's a Gen 1 product without enough years of refinement. Looks way more pocketable and I love the fingerprint scanner is on the power button and not an in-display like the Pixel 6 and 7 which I hate. Too slow. Side button is way more instant.

Looks like a winner, Michael Fisher. Can't wait for you to review it. I'll get it in white (or "porcelain") too and put a clear case on it like my iPhone X. Looks really classy with a clear case and the silver, chrome-y sides. And speaking of the sides, it's rounded like the Find N and N2. It seems since last year, Samsung is shaving the sides by making them flatter. I prefer them rounded.

                                  When closed
                                  Pixel Fold: 139.7 x 79.5 x 12.1 mm
                                  Z Fold 4: 155.1 x 67.1 x 14.2-15.8 mm

Nearly the same height as the HTC One M7 and Nexus 5. Hell yeah! Hell naw to the price.

This will cost almost 2000 euros in Europe. Price is too high for what it offers. Google is riding the "AI horse" to ask more money for devices now. I'm so curious to see the battery life on this, i bet it'll will last a few hours only...
1299 or so would be a fair price for this.
