The company, STMicroelectronics, that sold this mic to anyone else than Nokia should be sued, not HTC!

It's worse than copying actually. Nokia engineered & invented the HAAC chip and gave the manufacturing rights to ST Electronics solely & exclusively for themselves. But ST Electronics started selling these chips to HTC.

It's like Samsung who was manufacturing Apple's engineered processor A6 starts selling it to Sony or some other smartphone company. It's pathetic and shameless move on ST Electronics part & HTC shouldn't have started advertising the BOOM SOUND.

Well, the judge seems to think that is the case. and it's his opinion that counts.

Here's the full load down from nokia.

“The Amsterdam District Court has today granted Nokia’s request for a preliminary injunction against the supply to HTC of microphone components invented by and manufactured exclusively for Nokia.

Nokia filed this action after it discovered these components in the HTC One; HTC has no license or authorization from Nokia to use these microphones or the Nokia technologies from which they have been developed.

In its marketing materials, HTC claims that its HDR microphone is a key feature for the HTC One, but it is Nokia technology, developed exclusively for use in Nokia products.

This is one of the latest in a number of cases brought by Nokia to end HTC’s unauthorized use of Nokia’s inventions. More than 40 Nokia patents have been asserted against HTC in Germany, the US and the UK. An injunction against HTC devices in Germany, which were found on March 19 to infringe Nokia’s patent EP 0 673 175, is now in effect. The latest case, on Nokia patent EP 1 579 613 B1 was filed in Mannheim, Germany on April 16.

Once again, Nokia calls on HTC to compete using its own innovations and to stop copying from Nokia.”

                            One word. Ouch!

Why is Nokia doing wrong? They invested time and money and know-how in this technology and then HTC stole it and make advs with it to sell theirs phones. It that right? Put yourself in the place of Nokia!

Don't be like Apple Nokia :-\
But on the other hand, as being a business man. I can understand why Nokia did that. Consider you are an owner of an industry and you designed something which can only be found in your industry and none can have it unless they legally buy it. All of sudden, some random company appears from nowhere and claims they got the exact same technology. On testing that technology, you found out that it's yours and it's just stolen from you.
You are still able to claim it because you have invested your own money and time in developing that particular thing.
Therefore, if one thing truly belongs to you and was taken from you without any legal contract then you are bound to claim it. You have every right to claim it.

This is how businessmen thought. It's just the thing every business believe. Nokia here, did the right thing. Sure, its not any stupid patent but its a patent worth claiming.
