Such sadness in the comments of this news... and I'm sad too.
All those sets I owned... are flashing before my eyes...

        Nokia 6670, N91, Samsung INNOV8, N8, 808 Pureview...(end).

I'm sure you guys have your own list of loyal Symbians with their own character and personality.
I still remember my legendary N91. The music quality... it can't be matched even today. Today I own a 808 Pureview.
My dad uses my older N8 now.

And although we all knew this was gonna happen... still it shouldn't have.

Elop has taken the exclusivity of Nokia, and made it participate into the same Rat Race as all were burning in.
He didn't realize:-> All Nokia needed to do was to maintain a stable OS platform, so that developers don't have to make apps again and again....
(Like that Anonymous guy said in the page before this one.)

If you change platform compatibility more than 3 times, and make developers suffer, then this will happen naturally.

He thinks Windows Mobile is going to bring back lost customers. Well, he'll see... That paintbrush created OS can fool some people though, that's all.

Well RIP Symbian. My N70, N73, and N82 all served me very well. And way before anyone was talking about "smartphones".

Nokia really missed it's chance to carry Symbian into the touch world with the N97. Oh well!

seriously, i think the ceo should step dwn or be replace... cmi... cannot make it. one of the reason y nokia can boooom in its bang years, is becos, of its wide range of varity targeted to diff target audiences in all aspect... and it's shrinking from so much to so many, and from so many to 1. well done, nokia......ceo. wat a way to direct the company's path.. to the END. well done.

Touchscreens are a miserable, abysmal input device.

Goodbye Symbian, the best OS ever made. It was, and is, the most feature-rich, resource-efficient, and battery-effcient OS ever made. My Symbian S60 can run 12 apps for 30+minutes (until some force-close) without much lag, using a 600MHz CPU and 32MB of user-available RAM. That's an achievement. Nokia are geniuses in OS.

Oh well, I'll have to buy the most *cough* crappy *cough* feature-rich OS left around, Android (which it is, after all), as I'd not buy iOS under almost no circumstances.

This is why Symbian phones where so good, they did not flood the market and gave good value long after it was created. See the Nokia N8 and 808Pureview for example, they still offer features that even the latest iphone or andriod cannot do. when Nokia abandoned Symbian for Windows was when we saw the Lumia rubbish flood the market more than that Blackberry rubbish that we had influx of. Nokia phones lasted and became classic even before the owner got rid of it. So if it takes 22months to make it was wonderful cuz the flagship lasted longer and you got time to get tired of it.

Anonymous, 13 Jun 2013Who was run over by the mighty android and was in death bed... morePassed away? Updates will be arriving until 2016. The phones will last more than this, thanks to good hardware. New apps and themes are still appearing even though Nokia doesn't care. So, wait until 2016. Then we can talk. Also, it wasn't Android. Nokia at one time had to choose between going the iPhone direction (oooh, nobody will buy that) and Motorola direction (oooh, they sold 200 million RAZRs) and chose the wrong one, which held Symbian back for a couple of years. Right now it's as good as any other OS but you can see in the comments what happened next...
