Sony Xperia 1 VI teaser hints at new aspect ratio

13 May 2024
Sony is finally ditching the 21:9 ratio in favor of the more common 19.5:9 aspect.

Anonymous, 13 May 2024Sad, I liked the 21:9 ratio. Sony is conforming to the rest... moreStanding out, true. Especially with the 4K res.

But I have to say that the price it came at (literally, and also the greenish tint) was imo not worth the trade. The pixel density difference between 2K and 4K most often cannot be recognized in day to day use (unless you're pixel-peeping text characters) and, let's be honest, most people don't consume videos daily that are of that aspect ratio.

If the Xperia line is to survive and keep things we hold dear, it has to make compromise to shift the sales towards the more mainstream audience. And in this regard, the 4K screen with its aspect ratio was the best sacrifice.

Sony finally woke up for the 21th century!

      Nice

they literally listened to dumb complaints about the "tv remote" aspect ratio.

Especially in terms to camera software.

If the phone shapes up to be what the leaks suggest, I'm definitely pulling the trigger. But let's see the reveal first.

Wouldn't be surprised if Sony had to move to a 19.5:9 ratio so the chassis is wider for the big periscope lens.

The phone's aspect ratio will be different for sure...but the teaser image is flipped. The buttons suppose to be on the right side.

Sony finally seems to be taking their Xperia marketing team out of the shadows, this is looking up to be the best Xperia in a while

19.5 is a tad too wide I'd say 20:9 would've been the best middle ground between 21:9 of the past Xperias and the traditional phone form factors. The Oneplus 8 is still maybe the best handling phone to me.
