A phone shuold be as large as possible, but small enough to handle with one hand. From my experience 4.3" is perfect, may vary from 4.0" to 4.7" from person to person. Now when you got the right size, it's all about design and performance. I don't like xperias' design since ever, they don't even have keys (I'd love physical keys, I'd be happy with touch keys but those screen-projected keys are shit), too sharp edges and corners. Apart from the design, it's waterproof, dustproof and steamproof along with scrath resistant glass, which is perfect so far, I love it, and also runs on the most powerful chipset so far, snapdragon 800. No1 cares about the camera. It's simply best phone so far, for which 500€ isn't even that much, considering everyone gives 300€ for a mobile device today.

I love my Z1 and it easily the most gorgeous phone around, my PAYG phone is the LG G2! Each to their own but I guess haters will always hate given their sad boring lives....*Lame!

The whole news could easily be replaced with 2 phrases: too late and too expensive...
If i want smaller phone with 20mp camera and there's only one of them atm, how could waiting month or 2 be possibly too late? And price tag around 500 euros (taxes) is more than adequate, considering hardware.

Sony needs to release Z1S this year. Better before Christmas. At least in limited amount in some countries. Z1S looks like a good product but in order to be successful it need to be priced correctly, released soon and be available on many markets at once. Sony shouldn't hope to sell this phone with high margin but Z1S could help them to increase market share. Otherwise - hello Xperia V disaster.

I must agree with nearly everyone who has commented so far. As the saying goes "A minute late & a penny short". Sony dropped the ball on this one. And I consider myself a Sony apologist. Why grab this phone in February when the possibilities of other smartphones are endless? Not to mention? You got a new Snapdragon chipset out there. Atop that. A $600 price tag???? By that time the Bigger Z1 will be selling for about $580 giving you more BANG for you buck. Why Sony, Why?

i am starting to believe that this phone will be for china only.
sony is messing around with the phone for months now to tell us 5 minuts befor x-mas that it will hit the market (and so far only in china) in yet another 1,5 to 4,5 months. "keep your money and go with sony." sorry sony - the 1q goes until march. a release in march would be a total marketing flop! this must be a joke! i mean what the hell is wrong with sony? bring the phone to the customer - NOW!
the Z1S release might be a total marketing desaster just like the xperia V in europe. when the V was available in europe people already went for other options. sony learned from it's misstakes it made befor 2012 but nothing form it's failurs in the past 2 years.

Come on Sony this has been rumored for long enough. If you want it to sell well you need to release it before christmas. It would sell well, when people would buy bit smaller power phone as a present, for those WHO don't like 5 ich or more phones. Now is the right Time for release not q1 2014.

As I predicted - price is not much different with Z1. Similarly sized Xperia V can be purchased for almost half of price of Z1 mini. Xperia V wasn't successful on market so there is no reason to expect that much more expensive Z1 mini is going to attract many customers.
