AnonD-1319, 14 Apr 2014Now i will buy it the only thing that hinders me to buy m8 ... more"Tin cans" hold food longer then "Plastic bags" I rather trust metal then plastic.
There exist metal rings, but NEVER plastic ring.

The use of metal is all about premium.. something samsung lovers never knew.

              How cunning is HTC?
              It's a slap on Samsung's face!
Making Samsung buyers realize that they should get their phones at half the price since plastic really is cheap to produce.
              You little devil you!

This is a genial move. It was allways in front of their nose (Samsung). Only journalists want us to belive metal is better than plastic. Maybe for building houses not phones.
I would never buy cold metal for my pocket.

Nooo! Why are they doing this? They have a perfectly fine mid-tier phone in the Desire 816 - in fact the design is similar enough to the M8 as it is, why is HTC muddying up the waters and cannibalizing their new phone sales?

As much as a fan of HTC's build and design quality, even I know that this is a mistake on HTC's part as a layperson! For shame!

Not sure about you, but I don't usually suck or chew on my phones, or put them in my food, or... well, you get the picture. So, chances of BPA doing me any harm in this case are pretty much zero. Yes, I do like polycarbonates, when used properly. Lightweight, strong and extremely durable, overall a great material. And yes, plastic is MUCH better choice for gadgets's casings than aluminium (aesthetics of design is a different matter altogether). There are probably some metals that would be better suited, like titanium, but the price would be just inhumane)...

The chances of me using a touchwizzed device is the same as me sleeping with a HIV+ lady.

In anycase, I still prefer plastic. It's lighter and feels better to touch. Seriously, try out the soft back of the N5.

Look up plastic in wikipedia and read this,
"The primary building block of polycarbonates, bisphenol A (BPA), is an estrogen-like endocrine disruptor that may leach into food.[24] Research in Environmental Health Perspectives finds that BPA leached from the lining of tin cans, dental sealants and polycarbonate bottles can increase body weight of lab animals' offspring.[26] A more recent animal study suggests that even low-level exposure to BPA results in insulin resistance, which can lead to inflammation and heart disease."

                          Still like Polycarbonates?

good move. as long as it feels good in the hands, HTC has been awarded as the best smartphone for it's performance. If the performance is the same, and the looks are almost the same, and only the feel would be changed, then I think it is considerable.

so, if those so-called plastic M8 came with removable battery pack, then i'll buy it for sure.
but if it still using non-removable built-in battery, then Samsung S5 would be my obvious choice.

instead of a cheaper sibling, HTC should produce another model in polycarbonate (not plastic!) with just slightly lower spec and slightly different design - make it $400.

                                  we choose either a BMW 3 or 5. NOT a BMW 3 and a BMW 3s.

Jim, 14 Apr 2014I don't understand. Why is metal so much more expensive tha... moreMetal isnt much more expensive per kilo but if you know anything about manufacturing you would know that it is much more expensive to process and to make the final parts if its metal. Plastic is very easy to mold and shape, and the processes are often fuly automated, but with metal it requires much more time and human interaction.

To get an idea, try to search the video of how Xperia Z1 frame is machined with CNC machines out of an aluminum block, and then remember that its just part of the process. It also makes you realize why Galxy S5 is plastic, making as many phones as samsung do it has to be a fast process, or they would need 10,000 more workers and spend twice as much time and money in manufacturing, and Samsung is much to greedy to do anything of the sorts.
