And the real winners here are Samsung, Apple and their lawyers:

The amount of media coverage that these cases have received has seemingly polarised the mobile phone consumers to forming "fan bases" arguing who is right or wrong which is free promotion for the two companies and creates a loyalty of sorts.

The lawyers get paid an enormous amount for their services and being involved in such a high profile case will only increase demand for their services.

The real losers in this court case are the consumers, the consumers are lumped with the costs of the court case through increased costs of buying these handsets. Furthermore the "fans" and loyalty created from this court case serves to "limit" the choice that the consumer will choose from which again drives up the demand and will support higher prices, the higher prices will then form a new price point for flagship phones which other companies like LG, Sony, HTC.... et al will adopt to keep abreast with the "premium" offerings from Samsung and Apple.

So guys remember while you are arguing who is wrong or right, unless you are shareholders, paid trolls or in any way financially linked to either of the companies or the lawyers you are the loser (this is assuming you buy smartphones).

I'm not a fanboy, but i can't stand people commenting without even thinking a minimum. Samsung isn't my company but if you look at all trials of Apple vs Samsung, whereas it should be Apple vs RestOfTheWorld, you would see that Apple is claiming they invented hot water. But no, you don't.

I don't care about metal on phones, i already said several times that it makes phones heavier and not comfortable once cpu is heavily working, or too cold during winter. Not even talking about scratches or hit marks. But keep your metal buddies with you, it's your opinion and i got mine.

This is going to go back and forth for ages. Lawyers are going to use this patent infringement as their bread and butter.

                  Fix the american justice system.
Slide to unlock had previous art.
Aplle could get some level of protection for the way they used it, with a predefined path inside a regtangular. Put not an actual patent. And it would not take much in terms of changing the design to get past that. And it certainly can not result in multi millon dollars of fine. And they could not do anything, if samsung updated all their devices with tha tkind of unlocking geasture, for one that does not have the guiding lines.
Actually SonyEricsson also had slide to unlock, with pre defined path inside a rectangular. Apple didnt take them on. Probably because Ericsson holds a lot of patents for the base technology of mobiles, and Apple is known for infringing on those and not willing to pay. Nokia vs. Apple, Motorola vs. Apple.

Because Sammy has already patented the display size anything bigger than 4".

This time Apple needs to pay Sammy a lot of money!

HTC and Nokia agreed and assured apple ... moreread again and try to understand what those patents are all about and stop exaggerat the matter . It's doesn't even make any sense to apply the Samsung's success because of these tiny functionality beside none of Samsung look physically similar to tiny iphone . The truth is iOS7 is a obviously salvish copy of android , of couse ifans not even aware of that because they never even give a chance to any other OS rather than ios.

Are you still living in 2009? Don't you know that Samsung IS the giant now? It is only in the US that Samsung is losing heavily to Apple and that's quite understandable. When Apple sued HTC before for infringement, HTC had to pay and HTC was the bigger android company then. Now Apple did the same thing to Samsung with the result being people are now side-eyeing them.

You can only go so far as marketing your product as the most innovative thing ever to the most tech-ignorant populace and have a tradition of suing companies left and right backed by the most corrust patent office in the world but people learn eventually.

Apple also has to pay $158, 400 to Samsung ? I thought apple is honest and not infringing others technology. If apple makes bigger screen Samsung may go court again because it means apple is following Samsung ha ha ha . Apple one day may claim Graham bell was his wife and Nokia and Motorola were his children. Music and camera connected by Sony in phone also his idea. Microsoft was his student. Touch screen was theft by Motorola and htc from him and so on.
