End of life is only for device not for software. all windows phone gets 18 months of updates. L1020 will not have any promotional events such like that.

That probably means that they will be gearing up the production for the successor. WP is quite good. I had a 520 and it was a joy to use. There were shortcomings but it did serve its purpose well.

I love my lumia 1020. Unlike most people, the life of my previous phones has lasted me 3-4 years. My preference was to have the best camera phone with Xenon flash, which turned out to be all Nokia's. From the N82, N8, then Lumia 1020 (I didn't get the Nokia 808 because of their decision with Symbian). It's really sad that there aren't much people willing to invest in this device. My guess is that there's too much people hopping on the cell brand bandwagon and wouldn't want to experiment with other phones on the market.
Also the price for the 1020 isn't really that high. You could purchase this phone through amazon for a little less than $400, also the price at the time was similar with every other smart phones that came out at it's time. People out there probably thing that you're paying $100 for a phone like let's say the Iphone 5s, and don't realize that the full price of the phone is actually hidden in the contract.

I remember on October last year i found in the same store Lumia 920 being sold for €270 and Lumia 1020 for €600. After calculating the differences between their hardware, as Ram, screen, wireless charging, I estimated that buying Lumia 1020 is like buying its 41mpx camera module alone for €380.

Reason why it didn't make it. Firstly Nokia is not the brand in fashion unfortunately. Like Samsung or Apple. They can make phones with worse spec and still sell to the sheep. Nokia did not have removable battery, so I didn't buy it. I could live without non removable memory card but why do it! It costs an arm and leg I expect to have a sd card slot.

This is currently being sold at $200 now in the Philippines! The 1520 is at $250. Still no motivation to get these as I don't see the value of getting 20 or 41MP pictures that take up more memory space and no external card expansion (for 1020), or probably more cloud space. I imagined it just collecting dust at home, even with such great camera centric features.

Whilst the 1020 is serious overkill in the camera department 41Mp unlike SamSon you have no camera settings only one resolution 41Mp
Samsung and Sony you can select picture quality from VGA up to the cameras top resolution.
The 930 is clearly the 1020's replacement coming in at 20Mp so at the top end what is on other premium phones
The 1020 was way overpriced and based on reports here the 930 (like the Samsung S5 Mini)is overpriced also and whilst idk atm I expect the 930 to ONLY take 20Mp photos http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5506&idPhone2=6227
It does seem a short life for a phone, so please Microsoft more settings

Problem is not high price. It takes money to develop, then patent, then manufacture the camera system in the lumia 1020.
the problem with the 1020 was it used an old chipset, which causes the camera processing to be unbearably slow. Imagine you saw something interesting (your baby about to walk), then you take out your camera and....it takes 5 seconds to load...another 1-2 secs to focus, then picture taken. Compare this with the iphone (yes yes s5/htc m8 are quick too), press home button, swipe up and done. (actually, the z2 would be quicker thanks to the dedicated camera button...anw)
The battery is also understrength. It's definitely not enough. What would be a good idea though was tweaking internet explorer to change black to white and vice versa. The amoled screen will love this feature, so will the battery. (considering the web page battery test was shocking).
a 4.7/4.8 screen would be well appreciated aswell. Personally (note, personally), 5 inch would be better, but considering the phone will be thick...i'd stop at 4.7
oh and a...micro sd card (though as far as i understand, back then WP didn't allow this...)

Maybe a 1025 or 1030 will be an apt choice for nokia/Microsoft...
