"The screen has an aspect of 15:9, though the bottom row of additional pixels will be used by Meizu's Flyme 4.0 OS for on-screen controls, thus leaving the full 1080p resolution for apps."

No it doesn't. The extra resolution is horizontal not vertical. The vertical res is still 1920 so the on screen buttons will reduce that meaning its NOT full 1080p.

The display has 1152x1920 resolution. 1080p is 1080x1920.
It says in the text that bottom row is used by FlymeOS on-screen buttons, which decreases the 1920 pixels vertically, but not the 1152 horizontally, thus it CANNOT leave 1080p resolution for apps if you decrease the height of the display while leaving width constant. To make 1080p of this display, the on-screen buttons should've been on the side, and should've taken 72 pixels in width (1152-1080=72).
            Please correct the text.

Nice looking iPhone, I mean Meizu. Samsung should learn a thing or two from Meizu about copying iPhone. This phone is beautiful unlike the ugly Galaxys.

It'll happen again with Samsung tomorrow. As note 4 is supposed to use a Sony sensor and samsung always puts camera in centre.

How the heck did they manage to fit the 20MP camera module in the center of the frame when Sony's own implementation requires it to be in the bezel? Damn, these Chinese companies are getting really good at this.

Very obvious where inspiration is from. Xiaomi will deal a major blow to Samsung with this move. Wonder what that feels like?

AnonD-135933, 02 Sep 2014the way you think is very wrong, meizu is one of the best ch... moreWhy compare the MX4 with its predecessors? The Meizu MX2 and MX3 don't even use those poor MTK SoCs to begin with, they both use Exynos chips which are still supported to this date and this is the sole reason why you're still getting updates after 2+ years, period. Meixu went backwards with MTK as far as chip quality, support and life cycle are concerned.

That '2 generation old' argument is nothing compared to the extended support hat Qualcomm has been offering for their first generation SoCs (2010), they are by the best company when it comes to kernel sources, libs, blobs or GPU drivers. For instance, the Adreno 200 series which were originally designed and built for Android 2.0/2.1 are still fully supported and maintained (with no backwards hacks whatnot) on Android 4.4 with all the required ES2.0 extensions (42 as of 2014) including those required for WebGL. The four year old Snapdragon S1 and S2 are still being maintained in CAF's kernel 3.4 sources on a daily basis, thus allowing developers to port vanilla AOSP without 'legacy hacks' to devices using them.

It has nothing to do with software 'optimized' for the hardware but rather the company's commitment to support its older products and this is precisely what MediaTek lacks. Meixu or any company that opts for MediaTek can't do a thing that the latter drops support for their SoCs.

Find me a 2+ year old MediaTek device which supports 4.4 with the newest kernel tree with proper Android 4.4 Mali/PowerVR drivers then we'll talk.
