When referring to water resistant *smartphones* I think we should not say just *phone*, only because there were other water resistant phones that came well before the age of smartphones.
Siemens M35i does come to mind.

Samsung Galaxy Phones are the uggliest phones i've ever seen. They look Ugly (Even the Note 4 with metal frame looks ugly whatsoever) and their UI makes me puke. And yes you are right Note 4 indeed murders the pure Android experience of the Nexus with their buggy bloatware. The only downside to Nexus 6 which I can see is its size. But if you are okay with it, its hands-down the best phone you can buy! Also at 649$(unlocked) its much cheaper than Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Have you heard about Galaxy Active? It was launched way before First Xperia Z (which had only one USP of water resistance).

Not impressed by the design. A Nexus 5 like design would have been more appreciated. Galaxy Note 4 murders this one in everything except for the quicker updates and no bloatware.
