Samsung Galaxy Nexus hands-on: First look

19 October 2011
Well, Google didn't just unveil a new version of their mobile OS early this morning. They also unveiled their next Google phone, a new galaxy by the name of Nexus. And just a glance on that Super AMOLED screen in 720p HD resolution is enough to tell you it means business.

Some objective points i would like to pinpoint:

-Nice look and really better overall interface than Gingerbread

-At some points i thought i was seeing the N9 review! Many similarities in UI really!

-Camera 5MP!!!! Damn... An besides that what is really shocking is "the pink tint" which is still there!!! See the pics images! DAMN!!!!

-Looks like there is still no real Smart dialing...

That's why I still use HTC sense phones coz it really does make sense!!!

Video recording has problems(big), but this isn't the ICS shown at AsiaD. I think this version is beta at best.

Sorry, it's way to big. I want a phone, not a mini tablet, and I am not blind or half blind that needs such a big screen. I love my N1 and seems like I will stay with it for now. and BTW, enough about all this shXt processing power stories. We see how in real life the SGS2 is not really faster than the N1 or NS (not talking gaming, but productivity)

Pretty good review (as always from you guys) but aren't you a little bit too "Samsung supportive"?
Now the nexus's plastic body feels premium but on the nexus S the same [plastic bopdy looked cheap... Why don't you just kneel down and worship any phone that has the biggest screen-CPU-RAM?
Do you guys think about the usability? Does anyone really wants a tablet-sized phone that gets to be more like a laptop or just an average sized good enough phone?
Let's see, tell me one (and I mean ONE) app that uses the 2 CPU cores and the 1GB of RAM (knowing how Android manages the RAM) that won't work on a single-core CPU? And the benchmarks will not do!!
              All the best!

There is frame slipping, and frame duplication in the cam video sample footage.
And the UI kinda reminds me of WP7

Well, its looks good but I am not satisfied.

This is the third Nexus phone in a row with a 5MP Camera. That's not acceptable, you have breakthrough features everywhere and forget something like that? However, the build, screen, and features are top notch. It could have been a perfect phone with that minor camera upgrade.

It's funny nobody seems to have noticed, this is the first decent non-nokia penta-band phone i've seen :)
good job! choice is always a big +
honestly 5mp 8 mp, what's the real difference is quality and stablity of the sensor.

also N8 is hard to beat for Camera, so far, but rest of the specs don't make up for the for the crappy os/cpu on it!

I'm sorry, but I don't get the reviewer's comment on how ICS will end Android fragmentation. Did he mean tablet/mobile fragmention?
I presume that the various smartphone companies will still be adding skins to ICS and hence ICS will still take months to arrive. So the mobile Android ecosystem will still be fragmented?

This looks promising. But i feel the ui is bit sluggish going by the videos. Is it because of the high resolution?

still it has onscreen keys. So it's wrong to compare it to nokia n9, which is worlds only key less smartphone.
