Apple iPhone 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S III: All rise

25 October 2012
When we review phones we try to put them in context, and tie everything up with a snapshot of the market and the closest alternatives. Now, we usually keep droids and iPhones separate because honestly they just don’t mix. But every now and then...

well, no need to bring up a headache, and everything is clear that Samsung Galaxy SIII is definitely the best phone EVER over all other phones made on 2011-2012.

And BTW, I'm a Sony user and I still love my device, but the truth should be fairly said. :)

jim, 26 Oct 2012rooted s3 is better than iphone 6 periodhmmm, I don't think you know what's a native linux is....iphone has no Bluetooth transfer, no mass storage and no expandable memory... that is a typical linux.. Samsung is just a company that works and promote its products. check a galaxy Nexus.....no expendable memory too and the differents between iphone and a galaxy Nexus are...mass storage, Bluetooth transfer, very light UI costumization....if you really want to enjoy your android too..you have to jailbreak it (rooting). moreso android phones get freeze after couple of months usage....but that will never happen to iphone....buying a quad core or dual core phone depends on your personal interests.

I'm galaxy s user . .s , s2 and now s3! From the past 3 years i've learned many things about these two ecosystem. (android, ios) now i've s3 blue, and i can definatly say that s3 is more usable than any iphone, or ipad, to prove that, my friend dhananjay (iphone 5 user) and i wanted to get a song 'somebody that i used to know' i simply got that in minute from bluetooth, and he opened itunes then account showed some problems . . .and blah blah . . I asked him next day "do you got that song?" he said "no not yet" and by that time i had memerised that!
One time we were all in nagpur. . And had to find a good mall, 'siri' did for it. . But maps lagged. . .and in that time i did it. .with gmaps in no time, "job done", no?

                  Lets say
apple iphone is like sturd guy who likes to be in his world. . Without sharing . . A social life

galaxy s3 is open minded guys. . Who uses his cleaverness in every walk of life

and afterall when tour ended. . Everyone wanted pics of tour and i easily shared them with either bluetooth or nfc and dhananjay had put his head down in his 4 inch iphone!

I'm not critisizing apple useres cause dhananjay is also my friend. . . But galaxy s3 helped me alot even in getting new friends by sharing "photo's"

and it's really joyfull to write this comment with my phone

mate in the Panorama mode comparison page I found the Galaxy S 3 had a much better picture, I have even asked few other guys and they said the same thing also, so I don't know where you coming from to favour I phone 5 over it!!!

Nice review though they should have mentioned something about NFC. Also, the iphone 5 only wins marginally in some of the categories, while the SG3 comes out as the outright winner in the others. SG3 wins it for me

Just posting my observation i have been to singapore last year tha iphone 4s have not yet come out and ive stayed there for almost a month your keen observer here took notice how dominant apple is in this country i mean when i was walking to its street i see holding a iphone in the restaurants and bud all i see is iphones i do see few having a galxy s2 but its rare considering its the hottest phone at that time .. Then after 9 months i came back to singapore the iphone 4s is already out and the new iphone 5 was already released a month ago ang lo and behold as i am traveling into the city my keen observation seem to notice a change unlike the last year before i see a lot of people carrying galxy s3 and galaxy note still there is a lot iphone user but i dont know if its the 4s or the old 4 but the significant number i notice holding a samsung s3 and note are quite many i have a chance to go to a starhub and singtel showroom two of singapores biggest carriers i see on there stockslist the galxy s3 and galxy note 2 is already out of stock and again my keen observation notice a lot of people is picking up to see the galxy snote 2and the s3 and in the corner of the store a model of a iphone 5 sitting there as if doesnt exist ..well the bottomline that i shared my observation is apple is no longer a trendsetter .consumers now are intelligent especially when picking there phones apple missed a opportunity they should have released the iphone 5 then rather than the 4s they have given there rivals samsung in particular to catch up and now they are paying the price .sure apple is big but remember what happens to nokia ..

In the first place, how did iPhone qualified as a smartphone? From the beginning, there is a Pocket PC (which is a mobile computer) and a phone, with the decision to make 2 devices as 1, smartphone was born. Hence, a smartphone is a mobile computer + phone.

The iPhone, was never anything like a mobile computer, it restricts access to storage, it doesn't allow even the basic phone function to transfer image/media files, it doesn't allow accessing the internal storage via the Computer/Mac, it doesn't have the proper characteristics or features that qualifies it as a mobile computer.
It requires iTunes to transfer files and only specifically media files and apps. It's basically a media player (with apps support) + phone.

A customer who is looking for a proper smartphone (a mobile computer + phone) will never even look at iPhone.
While a customer who doesn't bother or know anything about mobile computer, they just want a simple, easy to use phone with great multimedia capabilities, will got for the iPhone. These customers are not concern with having not able to access internal storage, the reliance on iTunes and only capable of transferring specific files, etc. The iPhone is more like a mediaphone rather than a smartphone. To most people, they only care about the apps and games.

It's just 2 very different category of products. Just go for the one that you prefer. Both product needs to exist because it caters for different category of users. For people who wants a mobile computer phone, iOS can never offer or fullfill this category of user, in fact, even Android is not able to fullfill all of it, it's still lacking.
Similarly, iOS is a different category that will fullfill it's own category of users.
It's just like vehicles, there is hot hatch, Sedan, MPV, SUV, etc.
You can't really compare a sports hatch with say a MPV? Or a Sedan with a MPV. You can if you want, but a person looking for a big family car like MPV will not really be interested in Sedan anyway, technically they have different characteristics, altough they both can be a "family" car.

The thing is that you said yo... moreWhat I said was that the Iphone 5 does what I want and need from a mobile , not that it just works as a mobile phone. What I want from a mobile phone is good call quality calls with good reception, good camera, good screen, good music player, good email management, good internet browsing and ebay access. Also to be able to watch movies and play games. No $20 mobile phone will be able to do all of that. Both Galaxy s3 and Iphone 5 can do all those things very well, I just prefer Iphone. I thought it was a pretty simple comment to make in this forum, but maybe not.

The thing is that you said you like iphone because it does what you expect a "mobile phone" would do. A mobile phone costs these days about 20 dollars. If you buy a smartphone for the price of 1000 dollars because it does a mobile phone's work... Then excuse me but thats plain irrational...
