Apple iPhone 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S III: All rise

25 October 2012
When we review phones we try to put them in context, and tie everything up with a snapshot of the market and the closest alternatives. Now, we usually keep droids and iPhones separate because honestly they just don’t mix. But every now and then...

Anonymous, 25 Oct 20122 days ago i would disagree with you, but now i am not sure... moreuhm, I own the note 2 as well and it does give you a simple option to filter ur call log. Its choc full of features, and if you don't fancy the touchwiz clutter, you could always run a custom rom.

I think you guys are biased towards the Iphone on some of those. So.. the SGS3 has a micro USB.. BUT the Iphone has a fancy suite that you have to install to download pictures from the camera folder via a cable that costs 30$ SO IT'S A TIE! Wuut?!

This is the most proffesional method of making smartphone comparisons that I have ever seen. I particularly like the part they said 'tally the wins that matter' because smartphone preference is very personal. For example in this comparison SGS3 takes the cake for me but compare any smartphone in the world and nothing seems better than N808 to me ever! GSMA congrats on a very proffesional analysis

Blankman, 26 Oct 2012I respect your opinion, but an OS that just works, is what ... moreI am tired of people saying android is for tech geeks... It is actually as easy (if not easier) than ios... The advantage it has is that for tech geeks it is very much customizable... If not... Just use it as it is... Android is more popular than ios btw... So saying ios is what people "need" isnt valid anymore...

I love apple but m not happy with them any more .i had high expectations from iPhone 5 but it has nothing new to offer . I hope they realise they aren't going in the right direction . Ipad mini is a bigger iPod and 4th gen ipad huh I don't see the point in even calling it a new product. M using ipad 3 n I don't find the urge to even think of upgrading it . I was so happy with my iPhone 4S, when one of my friends told me to give a chance to galaxy s3 before the release of iPhone 5 , I did . After using it I hate to say, but s3 is miles ahead of iPhone . I love iPhone but its saddening to see their new(?) products . I wish they come up with something new so I can get back to my beloved apple and make fun of android . I miss the excitement I felt ,buying iPhone 4 and - even - 4s . Plz bring innovation back to ur products apple .

EZ, 25 Oct 2012You should compare the iPhone 5 with the S3's big brother, ... moreJust between the two of us... There isnt a single smartphone on themarket now worth comparing to the note 2. That thing is one hell of a device... I think we have to wait a few months to get smthg comparable.

Sgs3 comes out on top here and totally agree... the s3 can do anything the iPhone 5 can...and mostly does it better, plus it just has so many options that the iPhone does not

Anonymous, 25 Oct 2012and then again the SGS3 will win hands down... you know why... moreI respect your opinion, but an OS that just works, is what most people want. Both offer what the average user needs. If you're a tech geek, then the SGS3 is desirable.

That is what i call as the Perfect Match! As the famous line from Dark Knight - "When an unstoppable force meets an immovable object". 2 very good phones making consumers delighted! That should be the takeaway. And i'm a S3 owner btw :)

Please, make another review like this when the Lumia 920 gets on sale. My doubt, not only mine I guess, is between iPhone 5, SGS3 and Lumia 920.

Blankman, 25 Oct 2012It's unfair to compare by specs, as the SGS3 will win hands... more2 days ago i would disagree with you, but now i am not sure. Its one week since i bought a Galaxy Note II and my enthusiams has gone from skyrocketing to lunk warm. The tastelessness and stupidity of TouchWiz has been eating my patience since day one and now i am getting fed up. i still havent decided waht to do but looks like i will be giving the Note II to my daughter and get a Xperia TX for myself. Samsung may be the best at making high specced phones but tehy have no idea how to make a good UX. I mean, NOte II does not even have a call log, everytime i want to call a recently used number i have to go through some settings to get the recently called numbers, since the call log is a mess and displays all the recent text messages inbetween recent calls, so to find a recent call i have to scroll trough how many hundred texts first. Unbelievable awkward and utterly useless log. Ofcourse a call log must default to calls only, except if my phone is a samsux.
