HTC DROID DNA preview: First look

13 November 2012
HTC is having a hard time competing at the highest level of the smartphone market lately, but its latest smartphone might be what was needed to turn the tables. The all-caps name of the HTC DROID DNA is, for once, well deserved as this is certainly one of the most exciting smartphones we have seen lately...

errr, 13 Nov 2012HMMM...This is my initial reaction after reading the articl... moreHow can people claim that the dre beats doesn't make a difference? from somebody that has a music production based background I can 100 percent confirm that the dre beats sound enhancement has a huge effect on the phones audio quality. for example for those that own a New HTC and own a pair of dre beats in ear headphones, toggle the dre beats enhancement on and off and realise that what your saying is nothing but BS. annoys me when you get iphone users slating other phones features when they've probably never even experienced it for themselves. Iphone users are all haters on every other phone manufacturers... can I sense jealousy in the air?

os, 14 Nov 2012hmm.. maybe, they made it really power efficient. (nah.. bu... moreS4 is power-efficient, I am sure.
The problem here is the 5" screen, which will draw power like crazy.
Those who say they can live with 2000mha on a 4+ inch phone obviously do not turn the screen on often enough, in which case I see no point of even owning a 4+ phone.
DNA is ALL about that 5" HD screen, there is nothing else in this phone that is revolutionary in any way, and HTC goes and puts a gun to its head by putting 2000mah battery in DNA...whoever made that decision should be fired.
Lack of card slot is also stupid. Yes, cloud and all that, but I would never put critical stuff in a cloud only to see it disappear due to power outage or broken server, or being used by someone but me.

If it had 64 gb storage and 2500 mah battery then I would consider buying it... but now...

I had HTC Hero, I still have HTC DHD. I loved HTC. What they do now, with OneX, OneX+, Droid DNA just buffles me. These guys have a death wish, obviously.

"We really like what we see from the HTC DROID DNA so far. The smartphone is shaping up to be a very well rounded package that has all bases covered. What’s even more it has a unique feature in its arsenal that should help make you choose it over any of its powerful rivals."

Guys, how can you say that when the phone lacks memory slot and, more importantly, has absolutely sub-par and built-in battery?
This phone is a failure despite the great screen. HTC does not learn apparently.

            Meh.
            Verizon hobbles it.
J Butterfly is 9.1 mm thick. It has a microsd slot.
Droid DNA is 9.7 mm thick, WITHOUT a microsd slot.
And Verizon probably won't sell it in any other colours, just the black+red...
Hoping for a GLOBAL J Butterfly... *fingers crossed*

                  why HTC, why??

I think this phone will be a beast if HTC include higher battery at least 2500mah... can't blame the thickness though.

This is a nice phone for 2012 but there is a huge possibility that this was htc`s android flagship for 2013 and due to pressure from samsung they just finished the job quickly and made it early.SGS4 is going to give it a hard time.

hmm.. maybe, they made it really power efficient. (nah.. but a quad core is a quad core. no matter what kind of OS is that. It will drain the batter really fast.)
but anyway, the display is the only wow factor here. the other features are very common now and some features are still behind from the others. (like the camera)

We who have 720p phones knew this already, as we can see that our screens are not perfect. You and others who hang on to your old non-HD phones have no idea about this and should listen to the reviewers.

This is a significant step forward and it's not the end of ppi evolution.

Two important pre-requisites for any high-end smartphone to be truly usable are:

                                  1] user-replaceable battery
                                  2] removable storage [microSDHC slot]

Without the above, much of its power will go to waste. Potential customers such as myself will write it off [as has been the case with most of HTC's recent offerings].

HTC, stop emulating the worst traits of a closed ecosystem. Android is about openness. Cripple it at your own peril.
