Nokia Lumia 920 review: The Luminary

04 December 2012
Not the best of times then for the Finns, but the right time for a flagship to show its worth. Saying that the future of the company is being decided here is probably too much. But the Lumia 920 could be the difference between living with dignity and scratching a living on emerging markets...

Awww. Those camera results are pretty disappointing. Especially at well lit areas. And it's the reason for this phone being heavy? Not worth it, imo. I waited for this review, now that I've seen it, I don't think my next upgrade will be this. Nokia has quite a number of fans anyway, please take care of the resuscitation. Maybe their next offering would be better so I can get back to them by then.

"Of course, no matter how well you protect your phone software-wise, no manufacturer is offering protection against kids dropping or throwing the device."

Maybe GSMA guys didn't watch this.

I got a red one for my birthday present, which I will get on the 25th. Now, after reading the review, I'm not sure if I really still like the phone. After all, music and camera are what I'm going to use most often.

The camera doesn't really impress in fine detail in bright day, but let be honest, 90% of the time you will be taking photos with much worse lighting and in that case the Lumia 920 is much better than the rest of the competition, in such cases the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S3 are almost unusable.

I see lots of haters on this comment section. Is this really necessary??? Camera quality is OK and above average for a 8mpx shooter, don't tell me iPhone 5's camera is better because it isn't, just look at the low light photos. Video is still better, OIS won't make miracles but brings noticeable advantages over the competition.
An what about sound quality??? Do you really notice the difference between a phone who sets a -85 of stereo crosstalk against one that hits just 75??? Are your ears talented enough to judge a phone's sound quality just from what a table full of numbers says??? I'm sure 9 out of 10 readers don't know what does any of the sound parameters mean. Most smartphone users won't notice a clear difference between a L920 and another smartphone which is supposed to be the audio quality benchmark. Just as GSM Arena said: Only audiophiles won't be pleased at all. Regular users should be OK with L920 sound quality.
I'd just say I agree L920 is the best WP8 today. The extra Nokia apps give it an edge over Samsung and HTC and L920's design is just better. I won't complain about the weight, I'm not a child or a weak man uncapable to handle 185 grams (for the sake of it, my first phone was a Nokia 5110, why should I worry???). Anyway, haters gonna hate
BTW: this words are comming from an Android user, who expected that?

Dont make ur judgements on reviews and specs alone period. Iphones unreliable connections makes it a useless piece of yankee junk.

I will have to check out the photo compare tool, but by the sound of things Nokia needs to fix its processing to produce better natural-light pictures and videos.

Even without a stellar camera, there are other things that appeal to me about the 920 - but for the size and weight there should be no compromise!
