I had Alcatel OT-S853 firmware 169
and i leave in cairo Egypt
and i need to know how can i upgrade this firmware by myself i went to the shoop and he told me that it is impsible to change it . but i found some peaple in this site make this upgrade.
can you help me to do this ...and if you can , can you tell me where i can download it and what the best version???

i don't kno... moreif you buy this phone you will do a big mistake, especially after using a nokia phone. if you are interested read the problems that could not be solved, the softver problem an so on.... there are a lot
i think buying a phone that cost as much as this alkatel is good solution.

i don't know much about new phones i've an old model (nokia 1110i) & i'm thinking about buying a new phone with advanced features..and i also like alcatel (coz it was my 1st phone before this nokia) and i liked it so much! :) it has a strong signal..
that's why i was wondering about connecting it to pc...and if i can copy files and so on..
though i'm still confused to choose..
should i choose the shape of the phone?
or the specifications?...

well, it is your point that you said alcatel are poor phones...i will take that as a good criticism...
but im using my ot-s853 and nothing is going wrong...

Alcatel gprs featured phones can be used as internet modem. This is true since the time OT 535.

keenen, 29 Oct 2008what do you mean connect to pc??? i have connected my ph... moreis it posible? wooow , i thouth that only the better phones can be connected, because alcatels are known as poor phones.

i have connected my phone to a pc many times, by installing pc suite to the pc, and then all things can be viewed on the pc...you can edit images there...
well i havent tested my phone connecting to the internet as a modem...nelson said it cn be, but i never used it as a modem

Where can I buy another of this sound machine in new and complete condition? Is there still a store which sell new OT-S853 or online buying?
I have two, the first one was stolen a year ago, the other one completely dead after broken in pieces fall from 2nd floor.. :(

This phone can hold up to 1 gb mini sd card but please be reminded that it is always normal for a phone (not only S853) to read slowly if your memory card is full or have unsupported files. S853 will really hang up if it detects unsupported files. I am using 1 gb Kingston memory card (and the memory card recommended for this is sandisk)and I've experienced no problem except if the card has unsupported file. So, just check your memory card. You may have loaded it with .wav or other unsupported files.

julius, 13 Oct 2008the phone would have been great if it could deliver what's ... morei think that there were more than 3 people who has the same problem as yours...i myself would really shout out how cruel it would be...but the only problem i have with my phone was when i put in there some files that is not supported...it hanged by no reason...it happened to me twice...but it never happened to me like blackout, call hanging and all those...im saddened by this reports...hope nelson and ivan can be of great help...

Nelson, 11 Oct 2008to be honest with you, I also have experienced occasional h... morethe phone would have been great if it could deliver what's said in the specification. the phone was returned to me two days ago. it doesnt hang up on calls anymore but instead, it takes long to read the memory card despite that i only used a 512 mb card. before i handed it for repair/inspection i borrowed once from a firend a 1GB miniSD and it did not take long to read its content. the retailer said that the alcatel people changed the motherboard. i asked for a "diagnostic report" but tey said there was none. how would i know what really was wrong with my phone. anyway, im just glad it's been returned to me but still i think i wasted hard earned money buying this phone. i was only basing my purchase on reviews and phone specifications. i could'nt then make judgment on hand-on experience, how could i, right? but since i have brought it. i will just have to stick with it for as long as i can. no use crying over spilled milk or have i just done that? so nelson, how can i improve my phone's performance? thanks.

julius, 09 Oct 2008i visited this site around three times to read people's vie... moreto be honest with you, I also have experienced occasional hang up with my S853 but it only happen when I have unintentionally loaded my memory card with unsupported files like .wav, .rar, etc. And I never have experienced phone call problem (the phone hangs up when it received call). With this, I am thinking that your unit is not 18B firmwared so you must have its firmware upgraded into 18b or higher.
