i visited this site around three times to read people's views/opinions about the phone. the specifications were okay. and so i decided that the phone is worth buying after weihing my options (and of course considering my budget). however, after having the phone with me in just about a week, lots of problems surfaced. 1. it blackouts and i have to remove and replace the batt. 2. it hangs(pls check spelling) so i also remove and replace battery. 3. the battery drains quickly. just about two hours of listening using my earphones would give a low batt signal. 4. there were times i cannot unlock the keypad for quite sometime. and there were more problems. BUT i can tolerate all of that. what i cannot tolerate was the fact that when someone gave me a call, the phone suddenly hangs and the keys seems to lose functions....meaning, i cannot even answer the call and after a while, the call is cut off and the phone still hangs or freeze... no matter how hard i press on the keys, nothing happens... i thought it was just that once and i was ready to forgive alcatel about that.. after all, i liked some of its features.. but then on the very same day.. not more than 3 hours after, someone called me and the same thing happened. so i decided to give the shop i bought it from a visit and see what they can do. they decided to take back the phone for repair and to return it to me or replace it. i handed it to them exactly 14 days from my purchase. it's been away from me for more than a month now. i think i wasted money on the phone. there were a lot to dislike about the phone like the fact that it wont tell you how many characters you've typed in the SMS editor, that the user interface is not at all friendly, like the fact that you have to be color sensitive to see whether the message is read or unread. and lots more. but all that i was able to take with its good features. however, when the problem about receiving the call happened, i suddenly can no longer want the phone. if the worst problem had not happend i wud still have loved the phone despites its imperfections but with the major drawback, it no longer matters whther the problems were minor or major...it all means that the phone is worthless. i felt so unfortunate but i couldnt blame myself. after all, there are a lot of things about a phone that cannot be known without a "hands-on" experience. i just hope that alcatel can wisen up and get smart about their design and user interface. my phone had an awesome speaker but if i cannot receive a call, then its good as i have no phone at all. no more alcatel phones for me.

    but im sorry if i have mislead you...pls dont say that you like my brand alcatel...lol...im not from alcatel...and im not advertising it either...

    ok the point is this way...i said that the s853 is very nice, and i describe how my phone works, how good it is like:

    3 hours gaming
    6 hours music playback
    almost 6days on standby
    can do excel, browse using opera mini
    very unique in its physical build

    and lastly, a friend of mine wants tio have have one for him...

    and alcatel did not pay me all of this things i said...why did i make a post on my phones performance? to let others know if my s853 has the same capability as others s853...it could serve as a model... and what happened?? people will then know that they need their units to be repaired, or checked by alcatel dealers...thats how simple it is...i will never say, buy this unit...coz it is a matter of choice...

    so from the above capabilities of my phone, be it better or yours is better, it serves something...

Like you, I am also giving here not only my real name (not anonymous) but also my email address and it is simply because we are sincere in helping other people who are using and will be using alcatel. That anonymous guy will tell his/her real name here when the time comes that he/she become one of us in helping alcatelers around the world without asking anything in return from Alcatel.

          what i meant to stop answering is the anonymous guy...lol..i wont be outsmarted by just an anonymous guy...im naming my self in my real name, and be beaten by just a no=place-to-go guy...why alcatel??? why us??? we are not selling here, we are helping owners, not advertising anything from alcatel...

          alcatel didnt spend a single cent for us give help...we are helping coz we thing we can help and save them their money...

          i will stop answering anything from him...not from anyone who needs my help

                      Sorry people I have errouneous statement in my previous when I say OT S853's price is equivalent to three to four units of nokia N series. What I mean is Nokia N series price is equivalent to three to four units of OT S853. I always respect other people's opinion here. I just want to remind everybody that there's no perfect phone and that you nokia or samsung phone also have lots of problems and complains if only you read the users opinion here in gsmarena. But again I always respect everybody's opinion. I am not working with Alcatel. I am connected with a manufacturing company that manufactures printers and printers cartridges. (Our number 1 rival is HP). I have not even received anything from the company even though I have helped lots of people for Alcatel. It is just my pleasure to help people by sharing with them my experience with Alcatel phones. I am not wishing something from Alcatel in return. I have even received discount when I bought my S853 and other models. Like Knight Rider, I am just willing to help my fellow alcatel users.

                        there is nothing we can do about it...for certain nelson is only trying to expalin what is on his mind...he is not trying to manipulate people to keep buying this unit...

                        but im really sad to those people who have their s853 so bad they keep whinning how bad it is, coz for me it is very nice and even for me, it is one of the best...

                        they can wlaways say everything they want to say, provided that it cannot be deleted by GSM team...

                          This is the best phone I've ever used.
                          Alcatel, you are dumb company,cos you killed S-853.How can any one kill something that is so good.

                            even from the frst day like the 853 with bluetooth,(a stanard that is used for alkatels and is no compatible with other and bla,bla...as a user nobody is interested for it)
                            there are standardizations in evry market and so in telecommunications ..
                            You as a user would not be able to comunicate with somebody from other country if there is no such thing..
                            Please let the people tell their opinion

                              Thanks keenen for answering a question for me.

                              Anyway, as far as I know, Alcatel and TCL are one company now. And although they are merging, they are not putting their names in one product as what sonny and erricson did. Since TCL is not as popular as ALCATEL so the merging company decided to continue the manufacturing of TCL and ALCATEL phones with TCL phones loaded with more features as what most people are currently desires (take a look at TCL E787 for example) and ALCATEL with only few features but of very best designs. If only they unite both phones nokia and other big brands should have been peoples second choice.

                              Alcatel is still people's choice but only to those who don't want to spend more for a phone that almost have all features that the expensive phone like nokia has. Here in the Philippines, OT S853's price is equivalent to three to four units of nokia N series. And in times like this where we have financial crisis, why should we spend more for an expensive phone wherein we are not usually using all its features. Why should we buy a phone because it has GPRS and MMS feature that makes it expensive if everyday or everytime we use it we are only sending text messages most of the day? We are not even using the mms feature because it cost more than the sms. People who have gprs featured phone are not even using their phone's gprs in browsing the internet because it is more slower than browsing the internet using pc.

                                    Ok people... I got a very special question to you all. As you know Alcatel cares a lot about user feedback... and you have provided that plenty to them... and please keep doing that!

                                    Now however I have something else for you, the future. I mean... what would you like to see in the future from our beloved Alcatel brand. I am asking you people to send me your suggestions for Alcatel and I will forward them directly to the Alcatel product development and design team. You can send me all sorts of suggestions. If you have great ideas for design... show me... if you have certain wishes for technical specifications please let me know... is there a feature you would like to see in the future, email it to me and maybe there will be a new model soon which will have it. You shall have to be realistic in your proposals though... asking for a 10 megapixel camera with 1080P HD recording for instance will not be considered serious and disregarded. Also... if you have a bright new idea which could be nice to add to a phone email it to me and it might end up being used one day.
