thank you knight rider for your response, i do agree with you that mp3 is already of good quality, but i need a phone that works with aac and m4a (not mp4 that i earlier thought of) since most audio files i have on my phone (or what is left of it) are of this format, i did hope that this model supports said format but if it doesn't i may try to look at the c825. thanks again!

Bombino: try to look on www.protel.de in their shop.
The Alcatel S853 18c (as far as I know) is the newer version. I advise to use SANDISK cards. They were used to develop the phone with and they came packaged with the units shipped by protel.de

Hi,
I just bought another S853 (for backup)...
1. There were only 2 of them left, one has 188 firmware and the other 18C.
I chose the 188 one since I recalled many here mentioned that 188 version is very stable...
Anybody knows about the 18C version? Is it newer than 188? What is the difference?
2. Can 188 be used with 1GB miniSD card? (I guess 'yes', but the manual still mentions only 512MB..)
3. Can it be used with Transcend 80x?
How about other brand/speed miniSD card?
(I have used it with Kingston 512MB only..)

confuse gurl, just make yourself one of the members of yahoo group so that you can download everything for OT S853 there. We, the members, are sharing anything there.

i juz buy dis unit last year..this unit rocks!!!! but i juz have 2 problems on it.. 1. cant read a 1GB miniSD
2. cant connect to pc..

It supports Mpeg4 video files... and not MP4 audio... (at least not that I know of...) but why would you want MP4 audio...?? MP3 is nice enough? If you think if it can play the sound of Mpeg4 video's then yes... if the video's have sound and the video's are in Mpeg4 then it will play the soundtrack of the video.
