bought mine yesterday at cebu rc goldline for 7990. problem is i have installed the pc suite in my laptop and when i try to put mp3 on my fone it keeps on telling me that there no compatible mobile fone detected and to insert the usb cables correctly. i have checked the usb connection lots of times including reinstalling the software to my laptop still it wont detect the fone. anybody got a solution?

Are ot s853 sold online by wapzon.com have latest firmware of 18b or 188? Need help before i buy it.

nico, it is Php 7,990 here in RC Goldline in Cebu. RC Goldline is Versatile Telecom's retailer so just visit or call Versatile there in Manila and I'm sure it is available there at Php 7,990 or lower than that. Transcend brand is OK but it is not the cheapest brand. I am using the cheapest brand (Kingston 1 GB mini sd) and it works fine. But some people say that sandisk is much better but it is almost 2 times the price of Kingston. Again, transcend brand is OK.

jhoie_17, if you are in the Philippines and is using SMART (I don't have idea about Globe or Sun because I am Smart user), you can save your important messages in your 64K sim card. That cannot be viewed by other person because it is password protected. You can also save your important messages in the phone, in "Archive messages" folder but it don't have password protection option. You may also opt to use MobTime Cell Phone Manager if you want.

Jerico, reset your phone by typing ###847#. After that, set the memory card as your default folder in taking picture or video.
Also, try to check if your phone has 18b firmware and if it don't have, you must take it to versatile and have it uploaded with the latest firmware. The computer, specially if don't have windows xp as its OS, can't really detect the phone via usb if you don't install the PC suite and the USB driver. The PC suit that goes with your phone may not be the latest. You can download the latest version in www.my-onetouch.com and once you have installed them you can perfectly do something from your pc to your phone like copying mp3 files, etc.
About the picture, everytime you take a picture, the phone automatically name your taken picture as PHOTO001...etc. Everytime you record a video the phone automatically name it as CLIP0001...etc. You cannot really rename it in the phone but you can perfectly rename it in your PC. Just use card reader as this is the safest and fastest way of exchanging files.
You cannot make folders in the phone but you can make new folders (and even rename other folders) in your memory card in your PC when you use card reader.

The picture quality is good but I can't rename it. I tried renaming it in the phone memory but when I put it on the memory card, the name changess to Photo0001.jpg.
Another thing, can I make new folders?

I finally bought the phone on April 1 at Wellcom, Sta. Lucia Grand Mall Branch for P8990 ($185) with a free coffee maker and a messenger bag plus 2 years warranty (they always have freebies in wellcom).
But I think there's something wrong with this phone. It hangs and resets once a day. That happens when I'm taking a video (actually, only my first video shoot hanged) or just sending a message. And, I can't install the PC Suite because my computer can't detect my phone on the usb port. Can someone help me with this?

Fabian: Before you connect the phone to your pc you should first install the usb drivers of the phone (that are found on the included CD). Then you can do everything that you like with the phone. For more questions mail me at un112@msn.com.

For everybody's info, OT S853 in the Philippines (particularly in RC Goldline, Cebu) is now available at a very low price now. When I bought mine last January it was Php 9,090 (USD 189.37). Last February it was Php 8,300 (USD 172.91). Last Saturday (March 31) and until now, OT S853 is already 7,990 (USD 166.45). The unit goes with 256 MB mini sd card plus all accessories provided by alcatel. And of course the unit is open line as usual with firmware version 18b.

Badri, I bought my s853 about 13mths ago in digital sk, low yat plaza, KL(the only shop that sell it). I went to the same shop last mth to try to get new battery, but they didn't have either s853 or it's battery. None of other shop around that area selling s853. So I think you will never find it in KL. Get it somewhere in online shop like wapzon or ask our Philipine friend like nelson how to get it in their place

I downloaded the sw, but it is so difficult to use...
So I tried exporting it as Outlook express, now I can import it (but it ignore the category (directory) and put everything in 1 directory..)
If I use cpm, can it put the contact back to the correct directory?

Alcatel accessories are available in versatile. But try to negotiate the shop where you bought it. Ask them to order it from versatile. Versatile's messenger periodically visit their reseller or distributor to replenish their sold products and that they may take your order with them on their next visit to the store where you purchased it. Second is, try to visit wellcom as they also sell battery for alcatel. If you can see battery for OT C552 in your place you can use it in OT S853, it is compatible. The only thing that matter is it's only 650 maH while the OT S853 is 800 maH so it will not work longer but I've tried using that battery in my S853 and works perfectly.

thanks there nelson. i am now trying to retrieve my phone from the shop where i bought it. i think the problem is within its charger or battery. my problem now is, there are no batteries for alcatel here in baguio. where can i get to order it?
