Ley: Yes there is, browse to the song you want by using the "Media album", go to your song then press "option", go to "set as" and select "Message". The Mp3 is now selected, so no need to tranfer it to your phones memory but you can do it DIRECTLY from the SD card, but BE AWARE, when a message comes in the phone will play the entire Mp3 even you press ok or C, the phone will just continue to play it untill its finished.
143: I have not used the T710 myself but I do have the manual as a PDF, mail me at un112@msn.com if you want to see it.

Hi Ley, you can select mp3 tones as SMS ring by moving the desired mp3 to the phone's memory, once you do - just go to the ringtone settings and you will see it there, under the sms menu.
note that copying a 3MB mp3 file to your phone make take a minute or two, also it fulls your phone memory pretty quick, so you should use light short mp3 sounds.

The best memory cards would be SanDisk, they offer a 5 year warranty on their cards. But don't get me wrong, if you buy the cheap SanDisk cards they will be just as slow as any other card. However there are highspeed versions of those cards, it should say high speed or something like that on the package. Also the cheaper more unknown brands have highspeed cards too so that works as well. Just look at the package what you are buying.
About the improvements, Why doesn't Alcatel mmake any? Oww but they do! They make it quicker and more stable with every update. But to add functions to the phone it originally did not have would mean that they would have to reprint the manuals too, and if you think of the fact that manuals are normally the first thing which is finalized with a product, you can imagine that reprinting the manuals due to minor functionality changes would render the old manuals useless and would cost a whole lot of money to reprint them again! But don't forget, the follow up models of the S853 will have all those fancy functions you people are asking for! So they definatly are listening don't worry ;-).

I'm not undertand why alcatel didn't want to improve certain function in S853 e.g bluetooth, contrast, memory card and others, i think if they do and with good promotion strategy it will be hit again.

thanks for the info knight rider! it's kinda sad that this phone doesn't have brightness/contrast adjust, it really hurts my eyes T_T well anyway, how can i determine the speed of my mem card? i'm using a kingston 1gb...videos also takes time before i can play them (typical video size 1mb-10mb 3gp format)...if it's the mem card, what's the best brand for this phone? it's sad that it's only limited to 1gb...and of course there's the eternal quest for bluetooth data transfer...Ü

Yes that memory indication is not correct. That is because originally the phones architecture was designed to be used with 512 mb card maximum. But don't worry it is not a defect! Infact, you said it yourself, the 1 gb card works and besides when you hook the phone up to the PC by USB cable, the remaining space on the card is displayed correctly ;-).

3D sound by default huh?? Does not sound like the 188 version then... strange, anyway... No 2GB will not work, that is should not work. As only cards up to 1 GB are supported.

yes it work good . I have some problems , but generaly works ok.The rar some randome restarts whith out reason , and every time i open the cell phone after one full recharge i have 3d sound whithoyt the indication in the screen!!!, so i must ativate the 3d sound and then deactivate it in order to have the correct sound every time (after a full recharge).
I use a Kingstoone 1Gb memory card with 900mb in use.
If i use a 2Gb memory card will it function well?

slashercha: You mean the screen is to bright? So... that's good right? I mean now you know its nicely readable under all conditions? But to answer your question. No you can not change the screen brightness, it is as it is. If you feel the screen is to white though you could change the phones atmosphere, like going from the default "One Touch" atmosphere to the more dark "Wood" atmosphere, also about your memory card thing, what brand of memory card do you use and is it a high speed card? Slower more cheap cards can show errors in some handsets. And also what is your firmware version of your phone? The old 167, 169 (etc) versions do not fully support 1 GB cards, the newer ones should work better with them.
To the other poster about the 18b version, yes 18b means 188. Does the phone work good? No problems? The 188 version should work just fine ;-).

is there a way that i can reduce the brightness for this phone? this phone is too bright! i'm using 1gb meme card but unfortunately i tried pushing the used space to 900mb (mp3's only) and most of the time, this phone failed to read the data (so much for having 1gb of disk space when u can't use 'em)so i have to format the mem card :(

Bilbo: Good to hear that your phone is working as it should now. The fact that your sticker was not changed does not have to meant anything, the companies that update the phones sometimes just leave the stickers on without a change. The only way to check is to email the service center that updated your phone and mention your order or case number that was on your update report letter (you should have gotten back), that way they can check their system to see what firmware was appointed to that client (In other words, you!).
Like I said before some application are not meant for this phone, or were designed for a different platform. So some of them will run perfect and others will just run slower. Compare it too PAL and NTSC video formats. You buy a movie in NTSC format and play it on your video or DVD player and the image you get will look totally weird as it was meant to be viewed on NTSC TV's and not on PAL TV's. So yes trail and error is the only way to find out. Unless there is a site that specifically states that a game is compatible with the S853. About your video limitation: Enter the video recorder mode, then press the options button, then go to "default folder" and select "memory card", the phone will now create a folder on you memory card in which it will save the videos you make, so it will not save them on the phone anymore, but directly on the memory card. From now on everytime you shoot a video and go into the "duration" option, you can select 10 seconds, 30 seconds and High Duration (the 10 minute option). Hope this helped.
