OT BOY: That indeed is strange, it works here... Try pressing the OK button again, or try pressing the left button under the screen which says "select". Or try to completely shut down the phone for a moment and reboot it... see if it works then? It should work perfectly.

prue_tomiko: I do not have a lot of experience with the C652 but I can tell you it has NO BLUETOOTH! It has a fully functional infrared port and a VGA camera, which performs normally, nothing more nothing less. But take a look at the C652 portion of this internet site, there are some people there who have bought it and seem to be happy. Also if you have any more questions mail me at un112@msn.com.

Knight Rider: finally got my phone back on Friday (after 3 weeks!) and I'm pleased to say that the issue I had running Java games has been resolved. Strange thing though, the sticker hasn't changed and it looks like I've still got firmware 169. Is there any other way to find out what my firmware version is?
I started downloading games and noticed that VNES emulator (Nintendo Entertainment System) runs very slowly on this phone (used to run fine on my old SE K300i). Does anyone else have this problem? Or is there a way to speed it up? I tried playing around with the emulators settings and I moved it to the phone's internal memory but no luck.
Is there a rule of thumb as to which games will run or is it just a question of trial and error?
Also, there has been mention here that it's possible to record up to 10 minute long videos. I currently only have the possibility to record up to 30 secs. Is this because the capacity of my memory card (128mb) is too small?
One last question: when recording a video it is played back in landscape mode, i.e. horizontally, but once saved it reverts to portrait mode (vertical) and does not use the whole screen as opposed to landscape mode. Is there any way that a saved video can be viewed in landscape mode?
I'll stop with questions for now ; )
Thanks for your help! Cheers!
Bilbo.

KnightRider:
Well, that's the problem. The menu item (Dictionary) is there, but now it can't be clicked, or nothing happens by attempting to enter it. It's just a minor, but weird malfunction of my phone. Everything else works perfectly.

That would be Alcatel ;-) honestly they make some of the nicest designed phones around. I mean just look at their extremely cheap entry level phones, they all LOOK at least a class higher than that they really are. And yes the sound is mind blowing. Even the Walkman phones have a tough time matching it.

Yes indeed I work overtime, but hey I like helping fellow Alcatelers... so no problem ;-). Infact even the 188 version lets you enter the dictionary? Atleast mine does. Get into the main menu, go to "my settings", then go to "more settings", then go to "dictionary" there are all your words you have stored in your phone and you can delete the ones you do not want anymore.
Aklkto: Well the phone already offers an extensive customisation option as standard, you can already switch between different themes and menu layouts, change keysounds, change intro and outro animations without actually harming the phone. That's something
Alcatel has had for about 2.5 years now eversince the OT-735(i). However I would have no clue how to mod its efficiency, but I myself do not need it, I can hold out for a week with the way it is now. So that's fine by me.
Anyway glad to be of service, and remember you can still mail me at un112@msn.com (add your Skype name if you have any so I can reach you on there). Have a nice weekend folks!

hi knight rider, thanks for the reply. I was thinking of modding beyond wallpapers. Something like changing the menu system, changing the icons, changing the start-up and shutdown animation, changing the keysounds, seem editing, and making the phone more efficient by saving on battery life and increasing memory size. I'm ok with voiding the warranty; it's a risk I'm willing to take as long as I see some light that I can follow. There's always some satisfaction derived when you know you have a unique and great phone. Again, thank you. =)

just a handy tip for those who have problems with the PC suite. If you only need that for transferring files into your phone's memory card it is very practical to just buy a SD-mini card reader. There are even smaller types that look like flash disks and can be practically used as such combined with the memory card. With that you can get files from any PC instantly and you don't need to bring along the USB cable or PC suite... and it's cheap! Here in the Philippines you can get a 6in1 reader for P90 in CD-Rking, which would be less than $2.

Hello Knight Rider,
I see you're working overtime again here at the forum ;p Well, there's one weird thing about the dictionary of this phone: I did not notice any function that could delete all saved words in the dictionary or turn the saving function off, and in the old versions of firmware, my phone crashes if I would attempt to select the Dictionary-menu in the More settings...-menu (My guess is this is due to the large number of saved words and it would be really tiring to delete them all one by one ;p). Now having version 188 (I really do hope it's 188) I thought that would be fixed, but what happens now is that I just can't select the Dictionary-menu anymore after the number of words saved accumulated to a certain amount, but at least my phone doesn't hang anymore by selecting it. Not really a big issue for me, but it would be great if next firmware versions could include an option to delete all saved words and/or to turn the automatic saving off. (Or did I just fail to notice that function?) :) Does this happen to anyone else?
Thanks in advance, and thank you very much in general for all the help in this forum!

Aklkto: I think I can be short in my answer here. This phone and Alcatels in general are tough to modify, I am sure that on the regular cellphone mod sites you visit there are some modification for this phone and Alcatels described, but I can safely say that this phone is in no way easy to mod as Nokia's and Motorola's are. What sort of modification where you thinking of anyway?? If you mean changing wallpapers that is easy, but changing some of its basic function will be "impossible" not to mention that it would void the warranty.

Hi knight rider, I started looking for my next phone right after someone snatched my Nokia 3660 a few weeks ago and I saw this Alcatel OT-S853 with all the great features I wanted in a phone (2.1 speakers, expandable memory, 1.3mp camera, 176x220 screen, cool design, usb, infra, bluetooth, and best of all great price). I just don't know if this phone is moddable like the moto e398. What is the application necessary to modify S853 (if any). I wanted to buy this phone but I'm still trying to find out the possibility of modding the fone further to maximize the features. does S853 have an english fansite where modders discuss a lot of things about S853. Though, if it's not moddable, it's still a great phone for me. Thanks.

Kirka: What problems do you have with the suite? Contact me directly on my email un112@msn.com and mail me your problem, I will help you get rid of it!
Gel: Yes some images are locked and can not be erased, not with the phones interface anyway. Also it is normal to have 8.5 mb free space out of 10 mb, as 1.5 mb is taken by the melodies and images and even the phones OS. But if you really hate the images and ringtones in there... delete them if you want... however I would not do that, they don't bother me ... and that's why you have the mini SD card for extra memory space. Up to 1 GB.
Nictor: Some prepaid phone providers do not offer internet to prepaid custumers. However if you have a subscription it should work! Also... make sure you are not trying to use any internet form that is not supported by this phone. The phone supports Wap, GPRS and EDGE mobile internet services. No the video is not limited to 30 seconds only... if you insert a memory card in the phone and set the default video save folder to "memory card" the video should record up to 10 minutes. Hope this helped ;-).
For further more specific questions please mail me at un112@msn.com, if you use Skype please add your Skype account name so I can contact you on there.

when i upgrade the my phone, some of the images and sounds installed were locked or cannot be deleted, this consumes much of the internal memory of the phone, y? and also before the phone have 10 mb internal mem but after upgading it, it only have 8.48 mb part of this is 2mb for melody, is it really like this???
