You can try to go to www.getjar.com there are some applications and games there that work with this phone. And to upload them simply connect your phone to your pc and copy the files you want in your game folder that you created. The newer versions of the phone should be able to launch the games directly from the SD card (taking in account ofcourse that the games are compatible with this phone, if they are not they will not work no matter what... not even when you would boot then from the phone's memory)! Hope this helped.

Heck: Thank you for your kind words. Your phone is a 177 version, if it so far did not fail you then it is a good phone ;-). Now to your question. In theory the upgrades are part of the warranty as they can be considered as "repairs". If anything in your phone is not working as it should be and it is firmware related then the phone will have to be upgraded to be repaired properly, so yes... after a consult with your Alcatel service center (or your store) the upgrade should be covered by the warranty!
ZaZo: Alcatel has not announced an upgrade that will fully unlock the bluetooth file sharing yet, but you can try and find a JAVA program for the phone that will enable that very same thing using the JAVA application so that it will work anyway if you really need it that bad. However the S853 succesor will be having this option amongst other features. The reason why Alcatel is "late" with bluetooth development is, that not so long ago the bluetooth frequency was used by the French military, so Alcatel being a French company was not allowed to use that frequency untill some years ago... by that time the other brands have already had enough time to fully utilize bluetooth, so Alcatel could not... that does not mean they did not want too, they just could not, remember the old OT701? That was originally conceptualized to receive bluetooth at one time... however like I said above the frequency used for bluetooth was already used by the French military... that's the story as I know and heard it. But just be patient Alcatel will launch more high end features in the coming models that will be placed in the middle and high end segment.

Knight Rider pls tell Does Alcatel plans to make firmware with full functually Bluetooth in the near future???
And why Alcatel dont want to make it?? is it so big problem to them?
Sonebody have rumors for the S853 successor?

i just bought this phone a couple of days ago. i was planning to buy this for a year now but i have doubts on the ever changing adjustment of this phone ever since it was released. but still, its a great phone. what else could you ask for???!!!
for people who prefer a sound machine, this is a great phone with its loud speakers. its perfect with its 1gb card slot. i just hope that the speakers quality wont fade as time goes on but as of now there's still no complain that it does.
but if you want a camera phone, this phone is on the average. if we compare nokia, samsung, sony ericsson, and this phone who have the same 1.3 mpixel cam (i refer to the developed photos) sony ericsson has the best quality.
and to knightrider--> your cool man, are you working for the company alcatel? you got a lot of infos... i have the firmware 177 here, and i wonder if this version is good? and is upgrade also included in teh warranty? thnx much, maybe this was already answered but theres a lot of comment here to read, i dont have the time.

Gel: What do you mean it is not there? it is? Go to www.tcl-ta.com. Hold your mouse cursor over "Mobile phones" then click find your phone. You will then get a list with all of the phones there. And the very last one (bottom right) is the S853. Select that phone by clicking it. Then in the next window hold your mouse over "Tips and tools" then click "pc suite/mp3 converter". The next window should contain the PC suite download links on the right of the screen.

i opened the website of tcl-ta, was trying to down load the pc suites, the problem is when i am looking for my mobile phone, there was no such model. i am using ots853. why???

Thans for the fast answer man. Well tomorow i will try to change the msg previwe beacose now is on the service ... In the text book that comes with the phone dosent write that the msg must preview in the top screen. There it says that when a msg come, you will see the clasic "you have 1 message " in the screen. I dont now...I hape that i will find a way to change this.

Lef: That infact is not a problem. That is just the way how the sms service works, the phone previews the message to you. It does not bother me to be honest, infact I think it is really handy... as you immediatly see who is messaging you. But try fiddling around with some settings, perhaps you can change it to suit your tastes more.

Nico: Well in theory with the new firmware all cards should work flawless but I just said SanDisk as that is the safest way to go. But again, in theory they all should work.

tnx knight. btw i already contacted the cutomer service of the phone distributor and im glad they will update the firmware to 18b. you said to your previous post it is advisible to use a SanDisk miniSD, is it ok to use such brands like ridata, kingston, etc?

Hi gays. I have alcatel s-853 some days now but i have many problems with it. One of them is that when a mesg comes to me ,apears in the top screan his first 2 lines beafore i open it as and the tell number or the name of were it was sent.
It dosent apear the until now screan "you have 1 message" but the first 2 line of the message . How can i fix this? It is creazy !!!

Again Nico, best would be to make a picture of the rear of your phone so I can tell you if it is 167 or something else... Mail it to me at un112@msn.com .
You can not make extensive playlists. But you can do the next best thing... select the songs you want to hear... open the SD card on your PC, put the songs in a folder you made, then you have a sort of... playlist. Boot the card on the phone. Go into the music player and select "play folder", the phone will then play that specific folder you created and none of the other files on the card. So it acts the same way as the playlist, it just is a little more work. Yes you can write sms messages while an mp3 is being played... but the phone automatically pauzes the mp3 playback and will resume it when you exit the sms menu.

thanks knight it might be 167 not 187. another thing can you create your own playlist? if not its fine. and can you do other stuff such as texting while playing mp3?
