Radko:Glad to hear you are happy with the phone, it really is an excellent phone. Indeed one of the best deals you can get.

Craig: Craig send me an email at un112@msn.com and describe me what your problem exactly is, maybe I can help you. Or perhaps do you even have skype so I can help you by talking you through it. As I am sure I can help you get the software to work ;-). Either way email me with your problem and/or your skype account

Bilbo: I see... well in that case please do keep me posted and let me know how the phone holds up after update, good to see though that there are more and more people buying the phone as you two are friends and you both have it!

About the bluetooth thing... people if you buy this phone and get dissapointed by the fact the bluetooth works only to communicate with headsets and handsfreesets it is really not the phones fault, you see it was clear already from the very beginning when the first models where reviewed that it would NOT have a bluetooth file share function. Now currently Alcatel is not planning to update the firmware with that functionality either... they are implementing those features in the soon to be announced S853 successor, among other features. So people please research a product more properly before buying, just a small tip for buying stuff in general ;-).

Knight Rider: Yep, my friends phone is an Alcatel S853 so I guess it's just my luck...
Granted, some java games are written specifically for some phones. What's wierd is that the games' intro appears for a couple of secs then the screen goes blank. Anyway I'll keep you posted.
      Cheers!

I baught it a few days ago and I am very disappointed about the Bluetooth option, it has it but it's just the same that it doesn't have a Bluetooth connectivity, You can connect only with Bluetooth handsfree and not with PC or other phones :(

pc suite software didn't work and neither did the download from tcl-ta.com. support fail to answer all my emails and the hotline was no help as he hangs up every time that he realises he cannot help.
Is there anybody that can help me getting this phone to work? I am using windows xp with service pack 2 as the impatient hotline man suggested.
I would be very grateful for any assistance

Nico: Yes there is a 167 version of the phone, but that is seriously outdated. If you think it might be 187 (though I am not aware of that version) and you are not sure... try and make a photo of your sticker and email it to me at un112@msn.com . About your memory card question, no, there are no different types of Mini SD cards... there are different SD cards though like SD, micro SD cards... but these are not compatible. However Mini SD cards are and come in various sizes like: 64mb,128mb, 256mb, 512mb, 1gb and 2gb. But the 2gb ones are NOT compatible with the S853. If you have any more questions feel free and email me!

Bilbo: Bilbo, the phone you tested the games on (your friends phone) was that an Alcatel S853 too? Cause not all games work on all Java compatible phones. You see some games work on specific phones and just do not work on others... however keep me posted on what you get when you have your updated phone! Thanks!

D: Well Yes I would try and send them an email again. But how did you send them the mail via the contact form on their site or to an employee directly. Also... did you already pay for the phone, the phone only gets shipped upon completion of payment. Try sending them a mail through their contact form on their site. Here is a link: http://protel.de/50291393540033604.html .
Just fill out that form including your phone number and they should either email or call you back within the next 2 days. If you still do not get a word from them, feel free to contact me and I will see what I can do for you ;-) as I have some good ties with them and Alcatel. Eitherway good luck!

Bought my phone 2 weeks ago and was unable to play Java games (the screen would go black after a couple of seconds and the sound would continue to play). The games played fine on a friend's phone. I check the the firmware version as mentioned elsewhere in this forum and it's (yes, you've guest it) the oldest one 169. Took the phone back to the shop a week ago (Belgium) :(. I just hope that I won't have to wait too long and that the firmware will be updated!

Bonz: Push to talk is not featured in this phone. At least not in the European version. Maybe some Asian or American version has it, but not to my knowledge and not according to my info I have from Alcatel.

D: Where do you live if I may ask. Delivery time is dependent on the area where you live in. I live right next to Germany and it took me 2-3 weeks to get my phone.

Exactly, you can save the messages into the phone no problem. They just come on to your sim card initially and then after you read it and think it is important enough you can save it to your phone memory.

Winnie: you have the option of archiving/saving the messages into the phone but by default the messages come into the SIM.

hi guys... i wanna buy this phone after looking at its specs. but after reading the review on a pre-production unit on this site, i found out that it saves sms only on its sim. can anyone tell me if the production version is any different? what are its other disadvantages compared to nokia phones?
