i tried both throttle launcher and spb shell but i liked the former as it is easy and resides on mem card the later resides on main mem and consumes lots of space which can be used for other imp sw also hanged when switching to today screen but not for former.

                Hey guys, you all are providing lot of useful information on this thread, and after reading your opinions/experiences I've decided to buy this device. So I would like to ask a few questions;
Does this has Hand Writing recognition? If yes how does it fares with OneNote.
How about screen legibility under direct sunlight?
                Thanks in Advance.

I use the P320 for about 10 days and I tried lots of software. By far the best and sure better than Pointui is SPB Shell Mobile. Fast, very easy to use and beautiful.

I recommend you to do an upgrade to FW 4.10, ... morethanx t-dome. i am using sandisk sdhc 8gb card and i have installed all s/ws on mem card. i copied 2577 folder to my sd card and it prompts me to upgrade as there is autorun in it without resetting the handset (its same when i tap on autorun file). can i continue that instead of instuction given in pdf file that hold vol down key +reset button releasing reset and holding the vol down key till the screen for clean boot prompt for upgrade or as u told soft2 key procedure? i have installed backup prgm but it reduces mem by 3mb and in it only email, my document, and pim are backed up in encrypted files on main or storage. i do not have these files as i directed all my files to storage card itself. at present i have no problem of system stability or sound with original fw so is it worth to go for upgrade? is there any extra facilities with upgrade? for last 3 months after purchase i have hardly reset 2 to 5 times only after installing some new sw.

I recommend you to do an upgrade to FW 4.10, but I am afraid that you will lose your settings and the installed apps. Any installed programs on the SD card maybe will remain there, but their links in the Programs and Uninstall menu will disappear, so you have to install everything again.

You can do a backup with Asus Backup from the bonus CD that came with the P320, and maybe you find it on the Asus support page too.
I didn't try this program, if anyone has used it please tell us how/if it works.

And the upgrade process is safe. The original Windows 6.1 and Firmware version always remain in the device, after a hard reset they will be "re-installed". Here's the text from an inquiry I made on how to hard reset the P320. I asked how I could reset the device if it won't even boot anymore:

"Here are the steps of P320 hard reset/ clean boot for your reference:
                              1. Long press “SOFT 2 key” and reset or power on P320.
                              2. After P320 is powered-on , clean boot prompt picture will show on screen...
Currently, you can release “SOFT 2 key”
                              3. Follow the dialogue’s message, you can press “SEND key” to start clean boot or
press “END key” to cancel clean boot.
Be notified, hard reset is more like to reinstall OS, and it can restore the device to the
                              factory default."

What SD card do you have (make/capacity)?

Murali, 08 Oct 2008Hey t-dome... Thx for letting us know abt throttle launc... morePS2: Touchflo took me a lot of time to install too, it's normal.

Just run Throttle Config first like it states on the website and it should work. I also set it to use the full screen (296 pixels height I think). I don't use Throttle Launcher as separate application, but only as today plugin. After you select it from Settings->Today (and deselect all others), and return to the today screen, it takes about 6 seconds until it loads; just wait.

Murali, 08 Oct 2008Hey t-dome... Thx for letting us know abt throttle launc... moreHi!

I installed it like it says on the website, I use V0.94: http://www.throttlelauncher.com/portal/downloads/34-public-releases/84-094k .

You must first run Throttle Config or something like that, and then go to Settings->Today, and deactivate all existing today plugins and activate Throttle Launcher from there.
I had an error before because I first tried to launch the Throttle plugin without running Throttle Config first.

And the good news is: it doesn't seem to affect battery life. My phone lasted now for 2 and a half days and the battery is at 12%. I used the phone like before, about 25 minutes talk a day and about 1 hour of playing GameBoy :) a day. Before I got about 2 days of usage too without recharging.

And no lockups at all. I'll stay with Throttle Launcher.

I also have the updated firmware 4.10.

Thx for letting us know abt throttle launcher... I was eager to try it out too... and downloaded the file...

touchflo took a lot of time to install, but the bad part was that i cudnt get it to run... it kept saying that some file was missing... And even after installation, how do u run this throttle thing?

shubham, 08 Oct 2008hi murali, from where can i upgrade my version as u told??Hey Shubham, you can upgrade your firmware by:

                                        1. downloading the latest firmware from the asus website, and then following the instructions that come along.
                                        link: http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Mobile_Phone/P320/P320_V4100_V49_V160_WWE.zip

                                        2. Going to the Asus customer care center. they do a fine job... and for free.

Upgrading the firmware is essential as the new firmware reduces processor utilization, hence making for better response, longer batt life, much more stability, and less heat generation.

A lot has been discussed reg the firware upgradation already... In case of any issues, plz feel free to drop us a note.

                                        Happy upgrading!
