Device is ruined by a terrible firmware decision.
Unfortunately they have removed the option to turn off navigation hints from the settings. This means that the phone will always have a 10mm chin at the bottom from the thick bar with a bright white line in dark mode or a thick white bar in light mode which will cause screen burn within a few months of using the phone.
After multiple emails the response from developers is that they don't care and have no intention of fixing it.
I will never buy another Asus device as I have lost all confidence in their customer support.

Which is just so sad because this phone is literally perfect otherwise. Its a real bummer.

However, the ramdump issue does seem a real problem (there is an extensive thread in the Zenfone forum). The fact that it is being reported by anonymous accounts is because probably the people that had the problem didn't have an account in GSMarena (and didn't bother creating one), but it was suggested in the forums to "spread the message in popular platforms like GSMarena".
Personally, I am a bit scared for this to occur to me at some point, but I didn't return the phone (even though I could) because there is nothing else in the US that I like (at this price range).

I have had this phone two months now. No problems - I am just happy with it.
But is this ramdump case a real case and how common is it? If it is real what does Asus say?

Really good phone but the ramdump issue is making me nervous. Seems like it happens only to phones built april and earlier though from what it seems, atleast that's what the people in the forum seem to think. Mine is from may, so hopefully fine, if not I'll add another comment here.
PS: The battery is only okay unfortunately and the cameras aren't amazing at night, but in bright conditions the pictures are very good :)

So, I've had this phone for 3 months, and for the price I paid, it's a very good deal. However, the phone's cameras could use some work (especially the front-facing ones) and the battery life is mediocre.
More importantly, Asus seems to have some quality control problems. Last month, my ZenFone 8 bricked itself and would refuse to exit a ramdump. I had to send it in to warranty, which took 2 weeks, and I ended up losing my files. I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue, so it may just be bad luck, but it's a bad look on Asus regardless.

Just got the 16GB version for wifey. Always liked smaller fons for its usability. When using speaker for calls, the other party will get echo of their own voice. Seems to affect many other users as well. Some solved by software update, some not. Too bad Asus can't replicate the reliability of their PC motherboards to their fons.
Contacted Asus (bought directly from them), & was asked to send to service centre. So, pay top dollar for a 'flagship' & u settle any inherent built-in problems urself. Great.
Tried Asus again after a less than stellar Zenfone 2 experience. The 8th iteration should improve, right? Disappointingly, no.
This gives the impression their design, testing and QC team themselves are still in the 1st iteration.

the thing is, for android, no other phone comes close to checking all the boxes this does, while being the size it is.

Wanted to buy it but i changed my mind. Screen dark, big bezels, cameras not very good. And so ugly too, seems like a cheap chinese phone from a few years ago. Especially i you compare it to the classy purple and gold S21.

I thought 5.9" is perfect until I looked at the dimension and compared it to the 6.0" Google Pixel 5 and Sony Xperia 10 Mk3. It turned out that the screen aspect ratio also plays an important role when it comes to the overall size. While the Pixel and the Xperia may sound a bit bigger than this phone, the Pixel has a shorter 19.5:9 screen while the Xperia has a taller 21:9 screen. That is why the Pixel managed to be shorter than this phone because it has a shorter screen aspect ratio. No wonder why most people still reckon that 19:9 is the right balance between screen size and screen height.

WARNING! DO NOT BUY
I was very excited when this phone came out, finally a flagship small phone that is not the same size as a literal masonry block. It ran perfectly for two months until suddenly the screen went to black with small white and green unintelligible scribbles. After I tried to force restart it, it went to a page with the message "waiting for full ramdump".
I tried pressing every combination of buttons but it did nothing, it always went back to the same page. And now the phone is completely dead.

Avoid this phone at all cost folks!!! the phone will just unexpectedly brick on you, there are a number of us who fell victim to this already.
