GeeKay, 08 Apr 2009First off thank you mike for relpying i thought noone was w... moreYou should be able to use the wifi fine with the mobile network switched off. The only thing i can think of for the data charges is either:
1 - you may have an intermittent wireless connection, unlikely without you noticing, but it could be what is causing it
2 - The GPRS charges could be syncing with the BIS server. It has been known for the bold to connect to the wireless for internet browsing, but if it is busy or you are loading data, when it needs to check for your emails, it will use the GPRS. I dont know if there is a fix out there for this but it has been known.
What i would recommend is you contact your service provider's technical help desk and see if they can identify when the GPRS charges were levied, from here you would be able to correlate from known time on wifi or if it was a time you were away from your home network.
If it a case of it preferring the GPRS to the wifi connection (Which is very unlikely), then a wipe of the handset and a firmware recovery would be in order, unfortunately as something would have gone very wrong there

I just revived 2 bolds thinking that the wife would like it .Well if u live in Australia don't go any where near the unit. Yes it's easy to use but after a week with it I will take my iphone back any time it's just not what they say it should be. Maps will not work in Australia at all u need to subsribe to a map service at a cost per month using the keys while easy is still not as simple as other phones I have had. And I have had many via work from sonyerricsson to iPhones. The BB while good is not as good as other units. I have it now to wait for my next upgrade in a few months. And change units
