Samyt, 20 Feb 2010Can anyone tell me if BB8900 is a higher end phone or BB852... moreOfficially, the 8900 was the updated/modernized/make-over to the Curve series. From 8300 to 8900. The 8500 series is in the middle, more of an upgrade for price. The 8500 is newer, trackpad instead of ball, but lacks 3 main details to be considered higher-end. Screen res (360x240, a common res for screens from other companies but was used since like 2007) against 480x360 I think from the 8900. Nicer clarity for picture details and text. I thought that it wasn't a big deal, but when I saw the screen of the Bold next to my Gemini, I realized it does look nicer. The second, camera resolution. 2 mp is way to little for a camera phone, but then again, this isn't one. The 8900 has 3.2 mp and is a better resolution to be using in this era of 5/8/12 mpx cameras. 2 mpx is ok for email and mms but nothing to brag about, although in good lighting, the camera is awesome. And the 3rd, and probably the most controversial, flash and autofocus. Depends on your usage, really. I miss autofocus and flash because my n85 had a great camera and the flash was helpful. My friend's Bold 9000 and my mom's 8350i both have 2mp with flash and it really helps. That was a loss if you "upgrade" from a 8300 series phone. But other than those 3 details, the 8900 and 8500 are the same. And the 8520 lacks gps, but the 8530 doesn't, but that is a matter of your preference of carrier (gsm or cdma). Hope this is clear enough!

Samyt, 20 Feb 2010Can anyone tell me if BB8900 is a higher end phone or BB852... morethe 8900 has better software and design, the 8520 is designed for the cheaper end of the market, because of the material used to make the phone it self, although it is the newer one out. the best blackberry out at the moment is the 9700

HI all
I just bought the BB8520 yesterday, It is a pretty inexpensive phone for the features it has, Moreover, it is million times better than any Nokia Business Phone.
I recommend people to buy this phone as it looks better than the previous models.
Good job to the Blackberry team! My suggestion, keep Nokia out of business

Samyt, 20 Feb 2010Can anyone tell me if BB8900 is a higher end phone or BB852... moresamyt,
i would give u some of the differences between these two devices based on my experiences n knowledge..n u will look for urself which one suits u..
Gemini (8520)
1)newer version of curves compared to javelin
2)its lil bit cheaper than javelin
3)it has touch pad [which gave a new look n cool in BB's new product same like Onyx(bold 9700)]
4)the camera is only 2MP w/out flash (to me its decent already coz under the sunlight, the pic captured is still superb)
5)speaker is awesome for calling, listen to songs n also alerting
6)use same software n has same CPU like javelin
7)plastic but QUALITY..
Javelin (8900)
1)old version of curves compared to gemini
2)its expensive than gemini
3)it used trackball same like other BB's old product
4)the camera is 3.2MP but has the autofocus n flash
5)speaker is awesome for calling, listen to songs n also alerting
6)has same CPU like gemini n also use same software
7)stainless steel
so folks..thats a few differences between them..cheers!!

FatCat, 20 Feb 2010Brilliant post, except now I own a Nokia and a blackberry. ... moreThanks! I honestly had to go back and read the post as I wasnt sure about what post you were commenting about xD
I too would buy a Nokia, the black e71 still calls my attention. But I know that blackberry has the best push email service, and others are catching up. Android, for instance. But I don't use gmail. I have an ipod touch for games, so the iPhone doesn't really suit me. But Android does. Samsung has been creating a lot of cool devices. The Jet was a favorite, but OLED screens are hard to read in the sun and I read their forum and saw too many complaints. For now, the 8520 + ipod covers my needs, and soon I'll be looking to buy the 9700 'cause its really nice and has a great keypad. If samsung gives a good service and a great qwerty phone without WinMo, I'd be glad to try it! Windows phone 7 also might be worth a shot!

JRF, 12 Feb 2010I personally lost faith in Nokia a while back. I was a big ... moreBrilliant post, except now I own a Nokia and a blackberry. LOL. The BB does most of what I need though since nokia does not have push messeging. By the way, have you heard that Samsung is about to release their new service. Apparently quite similar to that of BB. Can't wait to see what happens their!
