      Hello..

I'm going to buy a new phone today. I'm confused whether to buy Nokia E71 or Blackberry 8900. I did compare both the models. Looks like BB 8900 doesnt have 3G, no video call. Where as Nokia E71 has all the lot.

Can someone help me out pls.

      Thanks !!!

Jay, 19 Dec 2009Although well constructed, I find your post a waste of effo... moreWell I will have to agree that once you get used to something, it is hard to shift to something else..especially after a few days of use.

My main 2 issues with the BB are that (1) (unlike symbian) I find the OS less intuitive. Symbian made more sense (to me that is). (2) I have a different perception of what a smartphone is. Apparently BBs remain (for now)e-mail devices and I just need a few more things.

As one other friend kindly suggested in his post here, if I want pdf support I can use the application store and if I want a better camera I have to look somewhere else. Well why not getting a Nokia E72 which has all this and more in ONE package while there are many more apps around?

What I am trying to say (and this is why I wrote the review) is that (even if we leave the OS aside) I still think the Curve lacks a few things which could make it a good all-around device (and not an e-mail device). Although it is still appealing to existing BB users I think it fails to win people like me who are not fans but would like to give it a try. The way I see it, there are better devices out there for the money.

Once again, thank you all for your replies.

You gave yourself the answer when saying "as a symbian user".
As a symbian user it HAS to be not that easy to start playing with a blackberry. Ask a fulltime blackberry user about symbian. He'll tell you the same.
When I started with my blackberry (long time SE user, since the T610) I didn't know what to do with that stupid blackberry button. Now I can't live without it. All of the possible options in 1 button? Brilliant! Although I have to agree, I like every OS that's on the market today. Well, except for windows mobile ofcourse ;).

                                      1. the camera is a joke
                                      2. video recording quality is a joke
                                      3. the browser is a joke
                                      4. GPS is a joke
                                      3. there is no pdf reader to allow opening stored files (on a business phone that is)
                                      4. cannot have the device connected via usb and work with your files at the same time, phone is on standby for as long as you have it connected to your pc
                                      5. speaking of files, the file manager is hidden somewhere in the media menu

additionally (this may not be an issue to a bb user, but annoy me when I tried to shift to bb):

The BB interenet service I have to use to get internet and email (I am using a family program, do I have to buy 3 bbs? ot have 2 seperate internet services?), you have to enable reception before any bluetooth file transfer...

Overall, as a symbian user, I found the OS not so user friendly..and I strongly believe that although this device is a very decent bb, all bbs are highly overrated and IMHO they're hardly worth the money.

I have witnessed that in the past, at the early years of computing (yes I am that old) with Apple fans who loved belonging in a niche group and loved being few, different, unique and passionate...so passionate that they normally had their ears and their eyes closed to everything else that was happening beyond their own little world and refused to see the negatives. It took them a great shock and a tremendous fall in market share to help them realize what the world wanted.

(pls forgive my English, it is not my native language, my message has no intention to offend anyone)
