I am a complete dummy when it comes to phones and I always get my daughter to sort them out but with this after a couple of weeks I had not problems with anything and it is by far the best phone I have ever had. All I can say is that there must be much bigger dummies out there than me!!! Bril phone I would advise anyone to own it!!

anaskhan, 26 Mar 2009i have the choice of buying blackberry 8100 , blackberry 82... moreI had the same chances like you and I bought BlackBerry Pearl 8100 basically because it allows me to be conected everytime 'cause it was made fot that.
But, if you are looking for a media device I should recommend you to buy the Nokia E51 because of its operating system S60 which let you install almost unlimited applications and games, and also has a better camera, better screen and 3G. I didn't choose it because I tested it and conecting via EDGE was faster than using its WiFi. And the E63 looks pretty big.

I really hate this phone because every time I receive a text message, the phone restarts itself and I can't access my media files in my memory card unless I restart it again. I've spoken to my provider and since, I've gotten (under warranty) 6 exchanges of the same phone and every single time, it is the same problem; except for once, the ?/A/S button did not work. WHAT IS THE DEAL?
Also, it's really slow after saving pictures onto it. I wish it recorded videos also. That's just small issues though and it normally wouldn't bother me as badly as the restarting issue.

If you really like pearls', buy the 8120. This model leaves a lot to be desired. Doesn't record video, it's kind of slow, doesn't reproduces full screen video, java games (jar) doesn't work directly (You have to do a lot of stuff and then, maybe, java application could work). I recomend the sony ericsson 910i. It's faster than pearl and it has many cool applications to work with your computer and then transfer information to your phone (sms, calendar and others)

timck, 29 Mar 2009How do you update the software?????go to blackberry.com, download the OS version to your phone, then install it on your pc, then go to the blackberry desktop manager (4.6 is the best) and plug your phone via USB, enter the program and look for Update Software, remmeber to backup all your phone data and your memory data (You have to format your memory sometimes to work with the new OS)

Chi-town, 18 Jan 2009I really don't like this phone. I had a Nokia N95 so it's ... moreI do thank you for your very good posting. I am contemplating a 8120 pearl. Previously, nokia and Sony Ericsson phones. I am not a business user, just for calls, texts and music and some applications. JUst loved the design of the Pearl, and I am pretty sure I could use the keypad ok. Just I would be stuck if it were not so easy to access other parts of it, ie, to download music, or to save contacts, to send text messages.
That would be about it, but it would be nice to have email on it, and nice to have the internet facility. So maybe NICE is not really a good enough reason. I am sure you are a busy person, but if you were to give me some advice, please, welcome

Only used SE walkman phones. No real need to access email away from computer. Does the software disk, that comes with the Pearl, do everything automatically, ie download contacts, and songs from i tunes, as in other mobile phones? Any other advice please.

This phone is not for the typical multimedia teen girl! It sadly doesn't have video recorder, it's not easy to get music on it, it's pretty complicated to access internet, can't receive anything with the bluetooth (you can only send with it), i don't think it has MMS and it doesn't have much message memory
The only nice thing is that it's good at taking photos, good phonebook and you can put photos off the internet as your wallpaper
