great to use very responsive. not good for those with larger fingers. but do think the screen is better then an iphone. 18 pre orders taken and ran out in a matter of 3 days. vodafone branding usually fine with handsets but what will we do if orange brands it, thats if they get it. i believe orange brand ther phones in ways that make them shite and slow.

Unresponsive screen issues - can be resolved by firstly removing the screen cover..its not obvious and you may not realise its still on...secondly change the sensitivity to 5 or 6....goto options, screen and keyboard, drag your finger up the screen till you get to sensitivity...change to 6 then...menu key and save... stop complaining its far better that the iphone touch screen!!!

In relation to the screen relaibility...Its made up of the touch screen, a gel layer and 1 button/switch in the centre...reliability is not going to be an issue..the mechanism is very simple and well built...dont worry

Yodafone, 19 Nov 2008Went to my local store today for a play with the storm as a... moreI got offered (upgrade) 30quid/month, 24m, Blackberry service and "unlimited data" with a free handset! You only get 250 minutes and not a whole lota texts, but at least the handsets free. Alternatively, there was the 35quid/month, free handset option and that offered a whole lot more texts. What I'm after is an 18m contract and that would probably cost at least 40quid/month for a free handset.

According to the eForum, there will be a new firmware soon. That should correct the current bugs: poor battery life, slow accelerometer response, unstable/weak reception, etc... If anyone is considering the Storm, I would suggest waiting for the new firmware to be released and road-tested by current Storm users.

Went to my local store today for a play with the storm as an upgrader. The size and bulk is not an issue it feels solid in the hand and well built, until you press the screen and then wonder how long into 18months you may need to change it or repair- time will only tell. The 'working' store model was ran through its paces and it all looked good, but was obvious that there was a long lag in screen rotation, apps opening took 3-4 secs. The video pre-loaded was awesome full screen and sound was good, then the screen became unresponsive and froze for at least 30secs.
I compared the web browser speed in store and brought up vodafones site on my N95 using opera mini on vodafone standard web unlimited and this opened up a good 4secs quicker than storm. The camera was ok, again not as good as the N95 5mp, under test the video froze (on cue once again) when saving to the 1gb memory card and had to use task manger to close the app completely. When talking about the upgrade it became apparent that to upgrade would mean that a tariff change was needed to be put onto blackberry package meaning a hike in price upto £40 or above to get it free. Would cost £99 on a £35 24month, was asked if that was ok, saying no a £35 18month was duly found and a credit for half offered onto next bill. The store also had a deal on genuine accessories and were practically giving them away, deals are to be had so keep pushing hard. The main issue why im still using my N95 to type this is due to stock taking at least a week- maybe two and that was to pre-order it today to get one. Waking into O2 50yards away the are doing the renior and getting pixon on monday 24th. Both need to be taken seriously on the storm handset performance and delivery, both will be available with an unlimited webbolt-on (the same as iphone), this means wifi is not an issue for pixon. If you want a storm, wait for it and see for yourself, the market is moving fast and there are other gr8 handsets and deals out there, shop around is my best advice- more of a storm in a d-cup for me.....

i got a storm from vodafone yesterday. there was a software issue with it and it wouldn't connect to the network. apparently this happned to thousands of people. off the record, the rep told me to return it and wait 2-3 months til the problems were ironed out. the returns dept were less than sympathetic. i'm paying a new tariff, which includes email/browsing etc which they will not suspend/refund and they have no more phones in stock. furthermore, they have no date when stock expected in. as far as the unit itself goes, god help you if you haven't got the slimmest piano-fingers on the planet ;-)

Anonymous, 14 Nov 2008Vodavone are also turning away 'upgraders' from high street... moreThat's interesting you said that the retail store reserved handsets for new customers. It was exactly the opposite at the Edinburgh Vodafone store (Princes Street branch) on Saturday (Nov 15). I have only been with Vodafone for 16 months and am eligible for an upgarde. So I went into the store and overheard some other new customer get turned away because they apparently "ran out of stock until Tuesday" (Nov 18). Then it was my turn to speak to the salesperson and after a bit of chat, it turned out there were four handsets which were reserved for upgrades and business (?). They were only selling 24 month contracts and offered me a £30/month, handset free of charge. I didn't want to be bound for such a long time so I just walked away. The salesperson said that there'll be 18 month contracts available later.

Having just received my new 9500 Blackberry storm i was pleasantly surprised when i first opened the box.
It is very well presented in a nice box and comes with a varity of attachments. Having set up my new 9500 i found the touch screen very unresponsive and awkward to use. Also when making a call it switches between speaker and handset whilst in the middle of a call which is some what annoying. The biggest let down was when i looked into my new contract with the service provider Vodafone and discovered that i did not have unlimited data and email like advertised. With the combination of the phone being not what i expected and poor information passed on from my network my new 9500 is on its way back to Vodafone and will be looking to purchase an Apple i-phone in the very near future.

so it seems people are starting to agree with me....

The screen is always the wrong way round and sometimes can take 10 seconds to correct itself, the ihone is instant.

I have now had this phone for 4 days and its not getting any better...if anything it's annoying me more and more.

The application I use a blackberry for (bloomberg professional) will be out in 2 weeks, by which time my 14 trial period will be over.

So I'm afraid despite looking forward for 6 weeks to getting my hands on a Storm, sadly after only 4 days its going back.

I wont bore you all again with my reasons and despite being told otherwise this phone is a major disapointment.
I shall be either waiting for iphone to sort out the legalities with bloomberg, trying to get hold of a Curve 8900 or sticking with my Pearl.

The storm is a bad bad phone.

                                    Finished.

dsa, 16 Nov 2008madness !!! My battery needed recharging this afternoon ... moreAlways to accept that with technology, human error/ignorance is usually a contributory factor when I can't get things to work - the battery life on my Storm is atrocious.
I am very much not in a 3G area (well out in the sticks) though normal reception is fine.
Fully charged the device at 0300, put it on "bedside mode" at shortly past 0315 and within 5 hours of non-use it was indicating low battery!
That's a bit rubbish in my opinion.

I have now turned the 3G bit off so GPRS is the standard connection.

I'm getting flashbacks to the insipid HTC Diamond Touch which I was regularly charging throughout the day prior to sending it back, 72 hours after receiving it.

The haptic keyboard is not as good as I thought it was going to be, and I truly doubt this device is going to last me 18 months, as per my contract (okay 18 months minus 70 days with Vodafone UK).

Is there any reason why the battery discharge time should be so poor on virtual stand-by mode?

I am loathed to not use it, but feel that I'll be forever charging the unit which, in this day and age, is poor. Else, I'll be buying another battery to keep as a necessary, and frequently used spare and a car charger for it.

I am starting to think that, as I imagined might be the case, touchscreen just isn't my mojo.
