What app did you use to to find it and where was it located? Removing it through normal means in android is greyed out.

Brand new out of the box it wanted to update but wouldn't update until it had enough charge. It seemed like it was charging slowly so I left it overnight. Only charged to 20%. It stopped charging, so I restarted it. It says "charging slowly" on the lock screen, but finally got to 25%, but still charging slowly. I restarted it again, but then the battery % started decreasing WHILE IT WAS PLUGGED IN. It just won't charge, brand new out of the box. It arrived on Friday, I'm sending it back Monday. I haven't decided whether I want my money back or another S61.

i had crash every minute with the latest android 9 update.
what helped me (it may not be the general solution) was, to deactivate the app "app-toolbox" that comes by default with the phone. it is not possible to uninstall this app, but set it as quiet as possible and clear the cache.
hope it helps you, too! and i hope, cat fixes this bug soon with a new update.

Great phone, tough as a brick. The laser and the air quality meter are mostly useless gimmicks but the thermal camera is very nice if you're in a field of work that can make good use of it. The battery life is also very good.
Could be better software-wise, there's lots of features I miss in the FLIR app for instance. The android 9 update also crippled the 4g reception of the devcice, but an update was released today and my initial tests suggest it is now fixed.

Bought my CAT S61 2 months ago. At first: no problems. The last two weeks the battery-managementsystem went crazy. (battery 45%, battery full, please remove from charger/ Using CAT during two days, no battery-consumption, then, all in a sudden: battery empty/. and many other weird things) I contacted CAT via email. They suggested to send it back to servicecenter or wait until they had solved the problems. That was yesterday. This morning I saw the CAT was running on Android 8.1.0, battery-managementsystem is running normally now. :)

Same issues since update to Android 9.
Poor network, microphone blocks voice when further than 9cm from your mouth. In hands-free mode it is better as the secondary microphone is switched off. It has to do with the elimination of surrounding noise but instead they eliminate your voice.
Tethering does not work... spend over 100,-€ for a 4G/LTE Wi-Fi Mobile Modem Router
Bought a Cat S41 to be able to keep my workflow.
Conclusion: The Cat S61 cost me additional 450,-€ + 100,-€ + 20h of time investigating, answering mails and phone calls.
Not sure if Cat really deserves that much attention and patience.
PS. I have not listed all issues as I lost my patience...

Folks, I found out how to enable Mobile Data with 4G after Android 9 disaster update. Hope it will help some of you. Here is how to do it:
1. Go to Settings (gear symbol)
2. Select Network & Internet
3. Select Mobile Network
4. Click Advanced, at the bottom
5. Select Access Point Names. There was no Access Point Names listed on my phone, and that seems to be the problem.
6. Click the three-dot menu (top right) and select Reset to default. Now, your carrier should pop up in the list.
7. Restart, and may the force be with you. (Make sure you enable Mobile Data and disable WiFi to check if it works.)
This is all I had to do, but the CAT support mentioned in one of their confused answers that Bearer should be set to Unspecified. (It was by default for me.) To do this, go to step 5 above and select your carrier. Scroll down in the list of setting until you get to Bearer. Click it. In the checkbox list that appears, make sure that ONLY Unspecified is checked. Click OK. Click the three-dot menu (top tight) and save.
For those of you who use another language, it might be easier to follow this and other guides by selecting english instead of your native language on the phone. Do this by selecting
System > Language & Input > Languages > Add a language (if you don't already have english)
Press and hold a language in the list to move it up and down. The language at the top is your default system language.
About the CAT support. I've been in contact with them several times regarding this matter. I feel I just get robotic answers, that didn't even apply to CAT S61 Andorid 9. They finally set me on the right track, but it took many hours of trial & error make sens of their answers. I really think they should do better. After all, this is $1000 smartphone that is not even one year old. Also, CAT logo on the back is already peeling off, and a small latch on the SIM card holder was broken the first time I took out the SIM card. Camera software suck too.
Next phone is not a CAT.

Sloky, 16 Jun 2019Hello all i have problem with my cat s61 when i receive ca... moreHi, I had a similar problem, just that no call was ringing. So I contacted CAT and they told me to take it to an authorized repair center, which I didn't do. After it was updated to Android 9 it seems that the problem disappeared and now it does sound when someone calls me.

Thanks Davey. Cat support did eventually respond but the advice given was to reset the settings. It did not work, and my phone didn't even have some of the stated menu options. The fix you suggested did work.
The follow-up Cat support feedback survey was screwy. Question 7 was "If you’re happy with our overall service, please can you give a reason and choose all applicable options below:". But I wasn't happy and couldn't (honestly) tick any of the options, yet I was required to tick at least one of them to move on to the next question. I vented with an email instead.
Thinking back a bit, I tried several times to subscribe to Cat's email list about a year before I bought an S61 but never got any emails.
Why is Cat support so bad? There's not even an auto-responder on new support tickets.

Used to love this phone. Read the reviews to start - not as good as pretty much any other smart phones for speed but conters that with the FLIR. However the issues are now greater than the benefits. CAT help - does not help. Person I spoke said they are agency so had no clue other than the script he was reading from. Shocking was the bill for £14.97 for a 28min phone call their 'no' help centre. Illegal in the UK as premium rate numbers MUST state their charge per minute - they do not. CAT ignoring my complaint for compensation.
Screen is sometimes unresponsive. Battery charging issue - CAT have admitted (sent them a screen shot with the battery % as 0%) it does look like there are issue's with the phone which is less than 6 months old. Stated it will take 7-10 working days to repair but may take longer. CAT refuse to refund or replace the phone - will only see if they can repair it.
Since the Android update - forced, no option for update later, it just did it. Lost all photos from a family holiday. The reason for going on holiday was with family in which 1 member may not live to see Christmas. Some 500+ photo's gone. CAT do not want to help - completely ignoring the issue. Calls drop out or piss poor signal - talk but only hear every 3rd word. CAT ignoring this issue as well.
The company - Billett have outstanding charges against the company. Made some £35million loss last year. It's got so bad I'm only left with legal action - I'm left with a phone that doesn't work and a company not willing to sort out any of the issue's.

The phone has problem charging, even though I only used the original adapter. Been in a warranty repair once, and after 2 months it happened again. Never expected THAT from a rugged smartphone.
