It might as well be a FF5+ with the newest software and new camera tech like they did with the FF 4+.

Aadrian, 25 Feb 2023With somewhat better hardware the Fairphone should be even ... moreYeah exactly
Really great replaceability and software support
Fairphone definitely doing a good job in a lot of ways

My experience has been you really need strong hardware specs for the os running
As future software won't play nice with old hardware or originally designed for it

I really liked what was done with the fair phone 2 longevity it's probably the best model they ever made

The fairphone 3 & 3+ are going run into problems soon with system requirements 6gb ram capacity minmuim for android 12

Google really does handle-cap old phones also by dropping support for older version of android designed for older hardware

Fairphone doesn't make phones where you can upgrade the ram or storage solutions too this problem be tough

Mid range phones life a short life unlike flagships or gaming phone
hardware specs are everything in cases like this

Can at least try tackle this problem with virtual ram memory by using storage space as ram capacity swoop space
But basically fighting a losing battery here
The storage read & writes will be greater I don't know the endurance of there chosen storage

Yeah there small company so they can only do so much
There mostly good with a mostly good trustpoilt rating

In time with hindsight looking back at how phones lasted lessons from history can be learnt
is really telling for understanding what too do next time

Fairphone seen too have not learned anything from this as there newer phone are very expensive but also very low spec considering and dated hardware specs from the gate

For some reason or another every brand that claim longevity seem fall for this same trip
              Get too fixed on software
but overlooking hardware performance and specs
They just so blind too the fact Moore law exists and the software crisis

Sometimes newest os isn't even the best and os stability more important that's more the landscape of today just build stable smooth experience a static os version actually work well

One great example of this is Andy os a pc android emulator was on android 6
It's only gotten one os update slow and steady
So it's now running android 7 but is more compatible with more apps then newer versions of android right now

Google is also locking down android making ever new version as worse in every way possible
              Android 14 going be grim

Often good hardware specs that are designed for the os can work well for that device but only on the original intended hardware

              Old hardware & new software
Just never play nice together or mix well
It's like the nature of technology just say don't do this
Old phones always pay the price in the end suffering on beta software updates or just can't handle modern os
It's never ended well the end

I guess some people will choose this fate for phones
But it's a painful and slow death & bad user experience

But they end up crippled by the os that struggle too do anything modern
that's os too new so is also incomplete with more legacy time period stuff that the hardware is suitable for

              Although
Like other brands There not perfect and do similar stuff squeeze money out the consumers
No brand is all good or bad

They are putting notched screens on phones
And sadly removed the headphones jack
              Dated hardware as well

There Sorry excuse for the headphones missing is it can be broken so we removed it
Not having a headphone jack is the same as it being broken

There also selling trying squeeze money out people for these ear buds with limited lifespan very pricey and stop them from using there wired headphones

So here and there it's great see other brands become more repairable as competition is needed in this market

it's cool they exist but people got think for themselves
Look out for what the future beholds
Anyway it's cool recognize what am saying and be on the same page

would've been better with fairphone 5 with side punch hole display.
is this company still in business? they never made phones for a while.

Sin, 25 Feb 2023Am not sure how long the fairphone 2 will last Hopefully ... moreWith somewhat better hardware the Fairphone should be even more future proof. I don't think Android nowadays gets sluggy that quickly like it did before but the better the hardware the better it ca handle the OS. Nevertheless the promise Fairphone is making (sustainability, long support both software and spare parts, repairability) is a very good thing and they keep their promise. Hopefully that will urge large bands to follow suit. The company I only small and they don't have access to everything large companies have so I think they're doing an excellent job.
For me personally I try to keep my phone for t least 4 years, I had my Note8 for 4,5 years and my S22 Ultra for almost a year now. Due to the high prices and being more environmentally conscious I try not to change phone every year like I used to do.
About repairability, glad Nokia and Samsung follow suit with better repairability of their latest phones.

Hopefully they will least at last 10 year's total lifespans

It's a interesting test sample and example of a old phone experiment of how long someone could hold onto a old phone and keep using it

Yeah having essential space parts available still and user replaceable battery's
Yeah hardware reliability should hold up so early death from hardware failure unlikely

So possibly the fairphone 2 can live for longer without needing upgrading too new android phone

One should still be able do everything on a fairphone 2
And keep it functional and hold out keeping it alive and working

I guess it all comes down too at what point a fairphone 2 can't it meet the needs of the user
How long till the phone just stops working anymore
                    Or
the missing out on the wants that a more modern phone can offer or tempting better phones

Phones this old really do show there age in Just how sluggish devices like this really are

Even you're topical £75 budget phone on even playing field already with phones like there now

Sin, 14 Feb 2023Fairphone 2 Is near end of software support soon Stil... moreFor longevity of a phone it's indeed important to have spare parts, besides having a long lifespan of software support. When I look on their website they still offer some parts for the Fairphone 2, not all parts are in stock or still available but the essentials are available like a new battery. Put in a new battery in a 7 year old Fairphone 2 and you'll be able to use it for another 2 years, albeit without software support. If you then use a phone for 9 years well hats off that's great I think. The average is 3 years, so that 3x the average use.

Too estimate how well the new ones will last
