I still have Nokia 6720c, Nokia 6030, i have had Nokia N70, but just recently gave it to my friend, i have Samsung Galaxy Note 2 as well. still running well as far as hardware is concerned, only left well behind in the race due to no software support official and custom ROMs both.

I would never throw it away and buy a new one until it's "unrepairable".

The fairphone 2
It's really good look back at phone like there's and see how they lasted
Really did get good software support 7 years of os updates really is good
Being able buy spare parts is essential for sustainable & longevity
Battery replacement is almost definitely be nessecsary in 7 years time
It's interesting see how phones they lasted and aged
What did hold up and what didn't
I bought a yotaphone 2 from this time period
Mainly for it's good performance & good battery life as well as oled screen and power saver e-ink screen
So how it lasted
The battery dead after a few years however it has a rather high ifixit rating and battery change was done
It updated from Android 4 too 6 although android 6 isn't supported app compatibility still going strong
No security updates isn't the best
On top of that no custom ROM exist or at least what I know of
Android 6 still usability is good most apps still support 32bit os but it's rough
but there's features I miss on Android 6 spirit screen mode that come out on Android 7 I miss out on
Both touch screen still works
Sadly is a little burn in the e-ink screen 1 thin lines
But oled screen still holds up going strong even today
Battery life
Ok could be better but good enough
I mainly use the oled screen but I have too use yota energy power saver
Camera still fine also can use better main camera as selfie camera if needed 2 screen useful in many ways
Performance
I wish i could had better things too say
The hardware didn't hold up over the years
The Snapdragon 800 even so it's a flagship soc aged painfully obvious and badly
The very dated 32bit Snapdragon 800 isn't even the worsed thing I have too say
Only having 2gb of ram aged even worse still and so badly it handycaps the already very dated soc
Just not enough bandwidth so most apps don't work well & games close themselves not enough ram
The storage has also slowed down a lot I think as well
All of this put together makes the user experience rough time the phone not as fast as it was the used too be it's slowed down a lot over the years the hardware not only old but also worn out on top of that
All of this adds up
The smartphone honestly kinda sluggish at times and has it's slow moments also has very long boot up times
It's smooth enough but not all of the time
It's the hardware where old phones really show there age
I probably won't want upgrade too android 10 personally even if I could
the later versions of Android
Are really heavy and don't run well on lower end hardware and limited resources
I bought new phones now but I keep ever phone I buy forever and maintenance for as long as possible keep them in working condition as there still useful too me

Vonas, 09 Jan 2023Motorola is currently offering 3 years of major OS updates ... moreyeah, ONLY the edge 30 ultra. Other cheaper devices are only guaranteed two of them, and the ones below 250$ are lucky to even see one. Several other companies are providing FOUR years of android version updates across more ranges of devices, like oppo, oneplus, and xiaomi, with some other companies offering four years of android version updates across ALL devices, like google and samsung.

I love the fairphone's attempt, but I hate their hardware. Sustainability starts with good (not average) hardware and ends with long updates.
Fairphone better offer a NEAR flagship phone that lasts 10 years instead of a below average phone (talking About 2GB RAM and a 8MP horrible camera here!).
The fairphone usually is a great phone (with fairtrade-fragments) for 4 years. After that it's on life support, but not an everyday phone.
If one can get an iphone or Galaxy or Pixel that lasts longer and offers better hardware you must be very "green" to get a fairphone for more money (comparatively).

YUKI93, 10 Jan 2023The fact that this phone got an official Android 10 OS upda... moreMan yes many companies could learn something from a fairphone.
My only problem is i already wirtten it to theses pages what could a 7 years old fairphone 2 run which apps. Because its nice it got many android updates but you cant update hardware only software.
And after like 7 years most apps especialy games evolved enough they would need much more ram ,more disk space and much faster CPU and GPU to run.
I play Clash of lords 2 since 2014 and my 7 years old Lenovo Vibeshot couldnt run the game anymore properly because of huge laggs.
Many else apps not only games could be same.
Even facebook is not the same like it was 7-8 years ago.
Sohaving tons of updates over many many years its nice but for dialing and calling someone does not really needs a hundreds euros costly touchphone.

Fairphone has very few users, the more users the more bug reports that can make their update a mess. And not necessarily will be given 7 years of updates.
