Fairphone 2 support ends after seven years, last update coming in March

09 January 2023
The Fairphone 2 had a pretty good run.

The fact that this phone got an official Android 10 OS update despite shipped with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box shows just how truly ahead Fairphone is when it comes to software support. Samsung still got a long way to catch up with Fairphone.

This is pretty interesting my only problem is after 7 years this phone is good only for most basic apps.
Maybe the software is still very updated but its hardware got very outdated.

Generally, getting an iPhone and keeping it forever is the best option for most people trying to lessen their environmental impact. That doesn't mean they should be the only option. Fairphone is the most sustainable Android manufacturer and running it with CalyxOS combines that sustainable footprint with software longevity.

oofio2461, 09 Jan 2023Motorola would never. Motorola is currently offering 3 years of major OS updates to their edge 30 ultra phones, better than most other companies do for Android (exception of Samsung, but I hate them with all my heart)

Please explain why my ancient Iphone 6 turned OFF eats the battery much faster than if you leave it ON in Aeroplane mode? The only explanation I have is that the iCrooks have installed some sh!t that is actively running wasting the battery, when you turn it 'off', to trick people into thinking the battery is dead. And for some reason they forget to run their malware in Aeroplane mode - or maybe the malware crashes when it can not send the data they steal? (if they respect Aeroplane mode).

HMD global is reportedly chinese but trying to look like European. Overall, the amount of support should be as per specs of device. Samsung can maybe do 5 years support on flagship but that is it, because anymore would mean slow phone and who would like that

All I'm saying is that phone companies should make their phones last longer. They should support their phones for longer. Their phones should be durable so they last. But that's against their profits, so they don't do that. Big L for the environment tho
