Smith, 26 Aug 2020Can anyone discuss the longevity aspect of this phone. No d... moreThe processor is certainly fast enough to last you two years. It won't likely be an issue.

As for the small battery however, and lack of expandable storage, I seriously doubt if you'll still be happy when the battery loses capacity after a few months and you have to charge the phone frequently or bring a power bank with you daily (so much for the small form factor).

Same with storage. 4K videos take up a lot of storage space and so do Netflix offline movie downloads and YouTube offline downloads. We're not talking yet about the media library and other important files you had from your previous phone which you like to be transferred to the new phone and still be locally accessible even without internet connection.

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2020I would rate him a desperate fanboy tbh.Actually, people who can't carry on an intelligent discourse and refute with a counter claim for each point stated against a phone with clear disadvantages are the real desperate salesmen and fanboys.

Can anyone discuss the longevity aspect of this phone. No doubt 3 years of updates are promised and the software is well optimised, but do you guys think this processor will push it past that 1.5 to 2 years time frame. Can I bank on this phone for giving me atleast 2 years of reliable performance?

Stan, 26 Aug 2020desperate Salesman detected 🙃I'm not a salesman and neither am I desperate to sell Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo. After all, these brands don't need selling. Their monthly sales are all WAAAY above Google's annual Pixel phone sales.

As for the iPhone SE 2020, you can buy it if you really want an Apple logo. But make no mistake, it's a poor man's iphone that is focused more on selling a logo than giving the iphone user a truly satisfying iPhone experience.

Anonymous, 26 Aug 2020I'm sorry, but you gave the perfect opinion, which is ... moreYou are entitled to your own opinion but my statements remain good advice to buyers who value their money. The most important aspects of the phone to consider are #1: The screen size and screen resolution and quality and #2: The battery to power that screen. If you skimp on screen size and skimp on battery, you'll lose at least 50% of a good phone user experience - a satisfying large screen that is not cramped and can display photos and videos in all their colorful glory, and a battery life that does not create problems after one year. These are basic requirements. Phones that are below standard in these areas will seriously be felt as less than satisfying user experience even if the software is above average or the camera is better than most.

I would probably choose the SE over this.... easier to use with one hand... with the 4a theres no wireless charging, no ip67, no flagship chipset. The only issue with the SE is the tiny battery.

For everyday task yes, the Pixel is better than the iPhone due to lower price, better camera, longer battery, nicer screen. But iPhone still has some features over the Pixel, like 4k 60fps videos and way faster processor if someone wants to do heavier tasks like video rendering and using it as a desktop computer.
And You mentioned other manufacturers' phones. And i will tell why you should consider pixel over samsung, xiaomi, oppo etc.
Software. With pixel you dont get unnecessary or downgrading updates, like for example in xiaomis. I have met some xiaomi phones with bad touch accurary on screen. Like its the year of beta touchscreen smartphones. Camera. These hardware centralized manufacturers like the chinese and samsung, are good till the bought stock-hardware and sensors are working in normal circumstances. But when for example it comes to low light camera, or stable system experience, they would have need of a good software optimization but they are lack of it. (except for huawei, they have been building some really stunning system, but unfortunately usa had seen them as threat.)
Samsung and most of the chinese are focusing so much on hardware, that the end product including the software is not so outsanding for the price. But the pixel. With the 4a for example they offer the must-haves of today's phones, with stable system and long lasting support. Also, they stand out of the trend with offering one if not the most compact good screentobody ratio device. You can not find such a good compact android phone nowadays, only the pixel 4a.

But of course everyone has their own taste, the money they would spend and the identity towards a brand. Im just saying that they are not praising the 4a for no reason. Just a very good example of what Google does, they get better photography results with the many years old sony imx363 sensor, than the company sonys owned phone xperia 1 ii's latest 2020 top range sensor gets. Because of the software. The specifications of hardware you get on paper are not everything...

Guru, 25 Aug 2020 This or iPhone SE 2? I can't decide i like both phone... moreBoth phones you mentioned are low end and limited. You'll have battery and storage issues before the phones become outmodeled, and the display experience would be limited being smaller phones. I advise you to stay away from both phones. There are plenty of choices from other brands that offer more for the money (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo), but if you must choose, the Pixel 4a is much better than iPhone SE 2020, unless you must have an Apple logo and branding on your phone.

A20WithAHoodie, 25 Aug 2020When is 5.8 inches small? Definitely not "compact"... more5.8" is small even by 2016 standards, how much more in 2020. The reason is because of the elongated aspect ratios - 19.5:9, 20:9.

My 2016 5.7" LG V20 phone in 16:9 aspect ratio actually produces bigger full resolution 4:3 photos than my 6.7" 20:9 Samsung A71.
In 2020 where all phones have 19.5:9 (min) to up to 21:9 (max) aspect ratios, anything less than standard 6.2" is small!

                                How is the display quality?
I want to replace my pixel 2xl with had lots of blue tint and black crush and very low brightness.

Definitely not "compact" like the iPhone SE 4.7 inches display where you need glasses or watch videos and enlarge to font to max in elderly mode. I'm taking copping this one over the Galaxy A71. To me the 2nd best mid-ranger on the market right now.

MRDA, 24 Aug 2020For those who have the Pixel 4a, what's the selfie cam... moreI had the Pixel 3a and I was unimpressed by the front cam. The front cam on my 4a is miles ahead. Personally I don't think the fixed focal length is a huge problem. I have a lot of Xiaomi phones with that same characteristic. Since the sensor is the same from the 3a to the 4a I have to imagine it's improved by the 730G being significantly faster than the 670 and just a year of further optimizations.

@MRDA The Pixel 4a has the same sensor on the front camera like the Pixel 3a. I personally don't like taking selfies with the selfie camera. I recommend taking selfies with the main camera. I know, it sounds weird. But it takes 100x better pictures. You just have to get used to it. I haven't taken any selfie with the front camera this year.

For those who have the Pixel 4a, what's the selfie camera like? I've read mixed reviews about it, the more negative ones talking about having issues with facial/detail blurriness on account of the fixed-focus lens. I've also seen a "paintbrush" effect with some reviewer shots but some crisp, detailed shots from other reviewers, so I'm not sure what to think. I can take some sharp, detailed front-camera shots using GCam with my ZUK Z2 Pro, and I'd hate for an actual Google phone to be a downgrade in that department.

Also, on the subject of the headphone jack, since GSM Arena are now seemingly too lazy to bother with audio tests anymore, how loud, crisp, and clear do things sound when listening through wired headsets?
