Anonymous, 15 Mar 2023Please, I take this over the S23 Ultra all day long.That's fine. Just know that objectively, this phone is quite a bit worse than the S23 ultra in every way. S23 ultra's camera is better, the battery life is WORLDS better, processor is better and more optimized, and has better software support. Its disappointing because on paper, this looks like a direct competition to the Samsung, but reviews and tests say otherwise. Nothing is gonna touch the S23 ultra and the entire S23 series for a long time, it's literally close to perfection. I had a vivo x70 pro plus up until recently as well, because I knew Samsungs reputation for a while and I haven't had a device from them in 10 years. This is the best thing they've ever done and I can't see how they will improve on it for a while.

So now we got the official GSMArena review. And we can see that the GPU has extreme throttling problems (GSMArena review) because the cooling sistem is mediocre. The battery life is much worse than S23 Ultra or 14 Pro Max despite boasting "the new silicon carbon technology" the fingerprint sensor is OPTICAL as in 200$ phones and the back cameras are very good, but not the best. And it has to be improved in video or selfie.
So overall conclusion: Not better than Samsung S23 Ultra or iPhone 14 Pro Max and probably even worse than Vivo X90 Pro+ as well. Now mix it up with this ugly design, 109h endurance rating, and 0 software support Honor offers (Honor Magic 4 Pro from April 2022 is still with Android 12 in March 2023) and you got... A BIG FAIL of a phone!

If a phone lacks of SD slot and 3.5mm it doesnt worth more than 200 euros.
So you can buy 2 of it and backup each other and you listen music with one and other one for as mobile phone.
I bought Poco F4 GT from somebody for 200 euros, actually I paid a bit much but yeah phone rocks, now im seeking for 2nd one.

Different UI means different features and overall optimization. Maybe Honor's cooling system for this phone is not adequate to cool down the excessive heat of the SoC. No one knows.

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2023thank you for this extended review. 50mp portraits were ... moreI have uploaded a 50 mp photo sample from your xiaomi 13 pro review as I have found it is the that actually serves the most usueable image quality, I do so by opening the file in photoshop, zooming in to 200%, if it looks unuseable at 200% then too bad let's go back to 100% and it is usueable at all. Most often no...so if you want detail the only way is to shoot 50mp photos and then to make that photo 40% smaller than what it was, that's about 30mp and it looks good. So the xiaomi 13 pro lets you do that, other brands or maybe models I won't mention just shoot pictures that cannot be used anywhere "professionaly". Open the gsmarena sample in photoshop or gimp, zoom in...100%...open the levels and move them to the left to brighten shadowed and dark areas...xiaomi's is the only one that doesn't reveal complete garbage so far to me. So I've uploaded a quick version of that photo so you can see how much really you can use it after 15 minutes of photoshoping it and it's cool but : some zones are deformed in such an ununderstandable and unfixable way you gotta forget them, but now about the colors and details, truly, gsmarena team please, does it in reality look anything more like this ? https://freeimage.host/i/HXhZRY7

50mp portraits were a great plus once. The selfies with your friend with the shaved hair are very good, they let us see camera quality, and 32 mp is good enough for replacing what look like no good at all 50mp cameras on one photo out of two like for every other camera.
So the samsung s23 ultra seems to be the only one that doesn't lie too much as 200mp give actual good 50mp files I could use, and seemingly it can shoot those in raw okay, and it's another info we can't grab anywhere...
Let me remind you the definition of a digital camera is a camera that shoots raw files because without that we can't talk decent quality anywhere...it's not even a toy you'd enjoy using, and from what i have seen online the samsung s23 ultra's 200mp cam is the only actually useable 50mp camera in the bunch. All others give about good 12mp shots and that's all. I've been looking for a good actual 50mp or more camera to buy, that has the other cams 50mp as well so I can do my stuff...all-around...that works without flaws and that indeed shoots those "big" 50mp raw files like digital cameras do and I believe I may be able to make my mind about one in maybe a couple of years as I rely on all those hidden flaws that rebuke me that I find in reviews, the big shots we don't see, the info we don't get.
and I believe most buyers are like me, so overall brands should inform better they'd sell more...

battery edurance quite dissappointing for 2023 flagship..should be 120hrs at least. Assuming it has 5.4kmah 7% more from chinese market it only increase by little

I don&... moreStop talking nonsense because the Xiaomi 13 Pro with its super mega 10-bit screen got a good reality check and in Dxomark screen ranking it got very far from the top 10 while all top 5 are 8-bit screens, 10-bit is good for MARKETING but not useful at all in real life as human eye is not able to see more than 10 million colors. 1B colors is just like having "Leica" printed, just marketing, but in real life that means nothing as Dxomark and comparisons prove the Xiaomi 13 Pro is a disaster and far from 2023 flagships, it's even worse than most 2022 flagships as Dxomark shown it with their professional reviews.

Samsung s23 phones still uses 8 bit display in 2023. I don't care how bright it can get, buying another 8 bit display phone when i already use one (poco f3) is a big NO NO for me. Nevertheless, i don't like magic 5 pro. Magic 5 ultra with better zoom should be ideal. Also patiently waiting for Google pixel 8 pro.

From my understanding, there going to release the Honor magic 5/Pro with a global version. They come with the Google Phone Dialer app, Google text messaging app, and Google Contacts app. Is there a way to install the chinese version of their Dialer app, text messaging app, and contacts app, onto the global version for Honor magic 5/pro. Thanks

They are noise free in lowlight whilst still maintaining excellent detail. However, the video quality doesn't look great in the video compare tool. Video has always been Honor's weak spot. Samsung is stronger for video

Not everyone cares about software updates either. Sure it's nice if a brand is fast with pushing updates, but personally I don't really care.

Good for you I guess, if you try to convince yourself this Honor is the best and that Dxomark is reliable go for it, despite knowing deeply it isn't and that there are already comparisons showing it's not the best (it's one of the best though) but neither the best as Dxo claims. Yup there are lots of articles that prove Dxo gets money to boost up certain brands (especially Huawei/Honor) and even DXO TOS say they receive payments for doing their reviews.
Also, it's not like Dxomark is the Holy Grial and their opinion is not worthy more than another site's opinion. But for example this Honor has been already proven that's not the best in 1. main camera 2. zoom / telephoto 3. video recording 4. night camera 5. selfie so at most it's the best in UW camera. Like I've said enjoy your purchase but you won't get the best phone in anything except for UW camera. Even the new 5450 battery is going just for China. That back cover has also the trashiest design of all smartphones, it's uglier than anything else.
People who bought Honor Magic 4 Pro in April 2022 still have Android 12 in March 2023 so while even the 700€ OnePlus 11 by 4T 2023 the Honor Magic 5 Pro will still have Android 13 and it will barely have Android 14 at very best 6 months later, given the fact the Magic 4 Pro has already 11 months and it has received 0 updates as of today. if you agree with the fact that you will get Android 14 even after a trashy 200€ Scamdung A33 low-mid range then you should be fine. :D

By hook or crook this will be my next phone it just makes sense. More than good enough camera: check, great screen: check, ultrasonic finger print reader AND 3D face unlock: check, IR blaster: check, APTX adaptive Bluetooth codec: check, Snapdragon 8 gen 2: check, decent battery capacity: check and the list goes on. Honestly I can't wait
